Previously, implementing the direction of the Standing Secretariat, the Prime Minister, the Central Military Commission, and the Ministry of National Defense, a delegation of 80 officers and professional soldiers went to Myanmar to participate in earthquake rescue from March 30.
Race against time to search and rescue
According to Major General Pham Van Ty, as soon as they arrived in Myanmar, although it was late, the delegation continued to travel more than 500km to Naypyidaw - the capital of the neighboring country to be ready to receive the mission immediately.
After working with local authorities, the team quickly deployed a search at three locations, including Bala Tidi apartment complex, Ottara Thiri Hospital and Aye Chan Thar Hotel.
Talking about the level of danger during the rescue process, the Head of the working group shared that the officers and soldiers of the Vietnam People's Army had to face countless difficulties.
Major General Pham Van Ty affirmed that the Vietnam People's Army delegation had excellently completed its mission, thereby contributing to spreading the noble international spirit, the fine traditions of the nation and the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers".
First of all, the weather conditions are harsh, hot, and often over 40 degrees Celsius. This also causes the body to decompose severely. In addition, the search areas are also potentially dangerous as there is a high risk of collapse. Many other rescue teams have had to leave due to the complexity and danger.
At the search location, the Vietnam People's Army team used sniffer dogs and specialized search equipment. Thereby, they discovered 32 locations where victims were trapped. The team directly organized searches at 20 locations, bringing out 21 bodies.
"In particular, the delegation coordinated with rescue forces from Myanmar and Türkiye to save the life of a 26-year-old man, to the appreciation of local people and rescue forces from Turkey," Major General Pham Van Ty emphasized.
Rescue forces of the Vietnam People's Army participated in the successful rescue of a person trapped for 5 days under the rubble.
Also at the above locations, the delegation found many assets and equipment worth hundreds of thousands of USD, then handed them over to Ottara Thiri Hospital and the people.
In addition, during their stay in Myanmar, the delegation also carried out foreign affairs activities, exchanged contacts and shared rescue experiences with specialized agencies of Myanmar, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates (UAE)...
Spreading the noble international spirit
According to Major General Pham Van Ty, Mr. U Myat Thu, Director of the Fire, Rescue and Relief Department (Myanmar Ministry of Home Affairs ) highly appreciated the above results. The representative of Myanmar also said that the Vietnamese delegation was the one that found the most victims' bodies and had the most meaningful activities among the foreign rescue delegations that came to the capital Naypyidaw.
In fact, the search and rescue process of the Vietnam People's Army in particular and Vietnam in general has received high appreciation from neighboring countries as well as international rescue forces; especially in terms of professionalism and expertise.

According to Major General Pham Van Ty, his colleagues also appreciate the courage, intelligence, and creativity of the engineers and medical staff... Many "difficult cases" that the foreign team failed to complete were still completed excellently by our soldiers.
"The Vietnam People's Army sending forces to participate in earthquake relief in Myanmar has contributed to spreading the noble international spirit, the fine traditions of the nation and the qualities of 'Uncle Ho's soldiers', and is especially meaningful in the Vietnam-Myanmar relationship, thereby sharing and helping the people of the neighboring country overcome difficulties in the current period," Major General Pham Van Ty affirmed.
