According to TechRadar , Adobe has joined the artificial intelligence (AI) wave by implementing their own AI assistant on both Acrobat and Reader applications.
The AI-powered chat tool, currently in beta, will be able to provide summaries, answer questions, and help format information for sharing via email in popular PDF applications.
Even though most of us do our work in word processing applications, PDFs still play an important role in keeping documents secure. Adobe estimates that there are 3 trillion PDFs in circulation worldwide, and it says its latest update will bring generative AI to everyone.
The new tool will be based on AI and ML (machine learning) models similar to Acrobat Liquid Mode, an existing tool that adapts PDF layouts for small screen formats.
In addition to the usual summary generation, users of the new tool will also benefit from smart citations designed to verify the source of chatbot responses, as well as links to help navigate to important information in long-form PDFs.
Adobe also pledged not to store or use customer data to train AI without consent. The company said this is just the beginning, with more features to come in the future, including:
- Extract information from various documents and document types.
- Edit, format, and create content.
- Improve collaboration.
“Generative AI promises to deliver smarter document experiences by transforming the information inside PDFs into actionable, knowledgeable, and professional content,” said Abhigyan Modi, senior vice president of Document Cloud at Adobe.
The beta will be free for individual and team users of Acrobat Standard and Acrobat Pro, with English being the first to be tested and more languages gradually rolling out. Once it’s more widely available, Adobe will charge for the AI assistant.
