The VTDI 2024 report presents the rankings of 30 provinces and cities based on their respective scores. The index aims to encourage provinces and cities to make greater efforts to create a more favorable environment for the tourism industry and improve local tourism development programs.

The VTDI 2024 Index is made up of 17 pillars and 111 indicators collected from the Tourism Enterprise Survey and other quantitative data sources. All indicators are standardized on a scale of 1 to 7. This scoring method allows the use of scores and rankings to evaluate the VTDI of provinces. The assessment is based on 5 equally weighted index groups. Each index group consists of pillars and measurable indicators for assessment. Each pillar is assessed with a score. The average score of the pillars with the same weight is then the basis for evaluating the index groups.

The process of selecting provinces and cities to participate in the VTDI (Vietnam Provincial Tourism Development Index) 2024 is based on a combination of factors that have been studied in the VTCI (Vietnam Tourism Competitiveness Index) 2019 and 2021. The goal is to ensure that all 30 provinces and cities meet certain basic standards.

According to the statistical results, among the 30 selected provinces, Da Nang ranked first with a score of 4.89 in VTDI 2024. The highest rated pillars include: Health and hygiene, Human resources and labor market, Priority for tourism, Tourism infrastructure and services, Environmental and energy sustainability in tourism...

In the next position is Hanoi with a score of 4.60 in VTDI 2024. The highest rated pillars include: ICT readiness, Price competitiveness, Cultural resources, Socio-economic impact of tourism... In the third position is Ho Chi Minh City with a score of 4.58 in VTDI 2024. The highest rated pillars include Aviation infrastructure and Non-recreational resources. The next positions in the top 5 are Ba Ria - Vung Tau in fourth place and Quang Ninh in fifth place.

According to the overall assessment, the index has been completed and implemented according to a calculated and complete methodology, including pillars, indicators, measures, weights and data collection sources. The pillars and indicators of VTDI have been adjusted to match the idea of the Travel and Tourism Development Index (TTDI) of the World Economic Forum (WEF).

The index has been carefully developed, explained in capacity building discussions and will be handed over to stakeholders for future use. The tools for implementing the index include a business survey, a spreadsheet template for data entry, an index value entry template for calculating results, a report of results to participating provinces and cities and a presentation document to introduce and disseminate the VTDI results to relevant stakeholders.

The VTDI will serve the purpose of supporting tourism development and strategic planning at both the provincial and national levels of Vietnam.
