Safety is something that young singles often think about when they enter the world of online dating. However, not everyone cares and learns carefully to protect themselves in this virtual environment.

Important but little cared about

A survey conducted by Tinder among young people aged 18-25, 80% of young people in Southeast Asia (Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia) feel that safety features on dating apps are very important in their online dating journey.

However, the survey showed that 30% of young people participating in the survey were aware of safety features and used them repeatedly. In particular, up to 18% were unclear about the safety features available on the dating apps they used.

Since then, Tinder has launched a safe dating guide covering a variety of topics, serving as a comprehensive educational resource for young singles.

In addition to covering Tinder's general rules and community guidelines, the guide also explains the app's various safety features in detail.

It includes tips for safe dating experiences, both online and in-person. It also outlines the process for reporting harassment and lists organizations that can support and guide young singles on their dating journey.

Gen Z is redefining dating

Tinder’s VP of Communications for Asia Pacific, Papri Dev, said that the well-being of its users is of utmost importance to the app. The release of this safety guide demonstrates Tinder’s long-standing commitment to providing a safe dating experience for its users.

Gen Z is redefining dating in its own way, Papri Dev says, with dates being more authentic, open, inclusive, and diverse.

"We want everyone to be able to confidently experience every connection on Tinder safely.

The knowledge and resources in the guide will help young people better protect themselves, stay safe and healthy," said Ms. Papri Dev.

Tinder was first launched in 2012, becoming the most popular dating and meeting new people app worldwide with over 530 million downloads, currently available in 190 countries and over 45 languages.

More than half of Tinder's members are between the ages of 18 and 25. In 2022, Tinder was named one of the world's most innovative companies by Fast Company.
