According to the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, as of August 25th, 63,276 hectares of rice fields had been sprayed with pesticides to control two-spotted rice stem borer and small leaf roller during the first phase, which took place from August 21st to 26th, reaching 96% of the area requiring spraying.

Farmers in Kien Xuong district are spraying pesticides to prevent and control pests and diseases in their rice crops.

Effective pest and disease control at this time will determine the yield of the rice crop. Therefore, during the campaign to control pests and diseases to protect the rice crop, local leaders and technical staff intensified monitoring of progress, urging and guiding farmers in spraying pesticides.

The second phase of pest and disease control took place from September 2nd to 6th. In particular, Tien Hai and Kien Xuong districts and the southern communes of Thai Thuy district focused on controlling the small leaf-rolling caterpillar in rice fields that had flowered after September 15th; Hung Ha, Dong Hung, Quynh Phu, Thai Thuy, and Vu Thu districts focused on spraying the two-spotted stem borer in all rice fields that had flowered before September 10th, spraying during the heading stage. In Thai Binh city, although most rice had flowered after September 10th, due to the high density of the two-spotted stem borer, control measures were necessary during this stage to protect the panicles.

The agricultural sector advises localities to regulate water to ensure sufficient water for rice to develop panicles and flower, and to supplement with NPK fertilizer with high potassium content for rice currently tillering and panicle differentiation (approximately 3kg/sao).
