Due to the influence of the tropical convergence zone with its axis passing through Northern Vietnam, Thai Binh province has experienced rain, moderate rain, and localized heavy rain and thunderstorms in recent days, increasing the risk of rice blast disease during the heading stage and reducing rice yield. In addition, according to investigations by the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the two-spotted stem borer and small leaf roller are causing localized damage to rice crops heading after September 15th in northern districts and after September 20th in southern districts; the seventh generation of rice planthoppers hatching after September 20th will cause rice blight from the end of September to the beginning of October if not controlled promptly.

Officials from the Crop Production and Plant Protection Station of Quynh Phu district inspect and demarcate areas of rice fields that need to be sprayed with pesticides to prevent and control pests and diseases.

To protect the rice crop, the agricultural sector requests that districts and cities continue to direct localities to mobilize farmers to spray pesticides to prevent and control pests and diseases at the end of the season: control of two-spotted rice stem borer in areas with an egg cluster density of 0.2 clusters/ or more, focusing on rice crops that flower after September 15th in northern districts and after September 20th in southern districts (areas with a high egg cluster density of 0.5 clusters/ or more must be sprayed twice: the first time when the rice is still in the early flowering stage, the second time when the rice has fully flowered); control of small rice leaf roller in areas with a larval density of 20 individuals/ or more, mainly focusing on rice crops that flower after September 20th; control of rice planthopper in areas with a planthopper density of 1,500 individuals/ or more, when the planthoppers are young. Preventing rice blast disease in rice plants during the ripening and heading stages when there is prolonged rain and low temperatures.

By September 15th, Thai Binh province had approximately 60,000 hectares of rice that had already bloomed, while about 15,000 hectares of rice that bloomed after September 15th were mainly concentrated in Tien Hai, Thai Thuy, Kien Xuong districts and Thai Binh city.
