The 2023 Winter-Spring crop in Yen Mo district took place under favorable conditions, with early harvest of Summer-Autumn rice, no heavy rains or storms, and expanded land for growing warm-loving crops. In addition, thanks to the close and drastic direction of Party committees and authorities from the district to the grassroots, production has achieved success in terms of area, productivity, and output.

Specifically, the whole district planted 1,543 hectares (103% of the plan), of which warm-loving plants accounted for 45%, cold-loving plants accounted for 55%. The main crops include: corn, peanuts, soybeans, potatoes, squash, sweet potatoes, tomatoes and vegetables of all kinds. In general, the crops all achieved higher productivity, output and quality than the previous year. Some high-value crops such as: potatoes reached nearly 156 million VND/ha, sweet corn 81 million VND/ha.

A highlight in the 2023 winter crop production is that a number of cooperatives in the district have proactively sought markets and linked with businesses and research units to ensure stable output for products, helping farmers feel secure in production.

In the 2024 winter crop, Yen Mo district aims to cultivate 1,500 hectares or more of crops. Of which, the area for production linkage and product consumption with businesses is over 260 hectares. Build organic vegetable production models, ensuring food safety in localities with concentrated vegetable areas such as Mai Son, Yen Thang, Khanh Duong communes, and Yen Thinh town.

Faced with difficulties due to labor shortage in the agricultural sector and heavy rains at the beginning of the season, to ensure the production plan, the district has proposed many solutions. In particular, it requires agricultural cooperatives to organize and implement well the land preparation and irrigation services. Arrange the season and reasonable variety structure: For warm-loving plants, it is necessary to choose varieties with a short growing period, the planting season must be completed before October 10; for cold-loving plants, focus on planting from October 15 to November 25; for plants such as corn, squash, chili, cucumber, it is possible to make pots and pots early before the land is available for planting from 7-10 days to take advantage of the season, especially vegetables and other crops, taking advantage of land conditions and labor to expand the area.

Agricultural cooperatives proactively contact businesses to link production and purchase products for farmers. It is recommended that production households actively apply technical measures for planting by covering with straw, nylon, and using agricultural film to limit weeds and pests. Use new crop varieties with high yield and quality to replace old crop varieties to increase productivity, value and production efficiency.

Speaking at the conference, delegates shared experiences in winter crop production, proposed solutions to overcome difficulties, and further promote the effectiveness of one of the largest agricultural commodity production seasons of the year.
