Green consumption trends

Việt NamViệt Nam23/07/2024

Faced with the negative impact of climate change on health, consumers today have gradually changed their habits to using green, safe, natural, environmentally friendly products from production to consumption and use of products. Currently, green consumption is not only a trend, but gradually becoming an inevitable need.

Green consumption trends Customers at Co.opmart Thanh Hoa Supermarket prioritize using biodegradable bags.

The trend of "green consumption" is being chosen by many people, from prioritizing the use of clean foods, with little or no preservatives produced according to VietGAP standards, organic, limiting the use of packaged foods; saying no or minimizing the use of products made from nylon, plastic... In the province, it is not difficult to see the image of food stores, organic, agricultural products, clean fruits, although compared to traditional markets, the products have higher prices, but are still preferred by consumers because of their clear origin, quality inspection and supervision by authorities. Ms. Trinh Thi Van, owner of Trinh Van clean food store (Thanh Hoa city), said: "All the foods sold in the store that I choose have clear origins, guaranteed quality, and prioritize importing agricultural products produced according to VietGAP and organic standards at cooperatives in the province. During my business from 2017 to now, I have noticed that the demand for clean and safe food from consumers is increasing, especially green vegetables, beans... Therefore, I also focus on finding more sources of vegetables, tubers, fruits that meet organic standards, and meat from livestock raised with herbs"...

Along with the green consumption trend, shopping malls and supermarkets in the province have used biodegradable bags to replace hard-to-decompose nylon bags; limited the sale of disposable plastic products; recycled products, environmentally friendly products, energy-saving electrical appliances, clothing products made from natural materials; encouraged suppliers to use packaging, finished products with environmentally friendly materials, such as wrapping vegetables in banana leaves, putting eggs in bamboo baskets... Ms. Nguyen Thu Huyen, a customer at Co.opmart Thanh Hoa Supermarket, said: "Understanding the harmful effects of using nylon bags, I have switched to using biodegradable bags. When I go to the supermarket, I also bring cloth bags to store things, and reuse them many times. Besides, I also prioritize buying bamboo straws, sugarcane bagasse boxes, glass bottles... for use in my family's daily life".

When environmental protection is a priority, many food and beverage stores in the province are not out of the influence of that "wave". Most shop owners have boldly replaced plastic bags, plastic straws, plastic cups... with paper bags, paper straws, starch straws, bamboo straws... Mr. Bui Duy Cuong, manager of The Uncle coffee shop (Thanh Hoa city), said: "Initially, when using paper straws and cups, encouraging customers to bring cloth bags to carry their things, many customers were upset because they were easily damaged and inconvenient. However, when explained and persistently used, now, customers have gradually gotten used to it and more and more people bring glass bottles to the shop to buy drinks".

Currently, facing the green consumption trend, localities, enterprises, households, production and business establishments have also changed their thinking, focusing on producing products such as: Bamboo straws of Vibabo Company Limited; natural cleaning products from pineapple peel of Fuwa3e Biotech Company Limited... Bags and hats made from sedge, water hyacinth, corn, souvenirs, decorations, utensils made from bamboo, wood... are also popular with consumers and are sold at tourist destinations.

It can be affirmed that green consumption brings many benefits and will become an inevitable trend in the 4.0 era. However, the process of completely replacing conventional consumer products that pollute the environment with "green products" still faces many difficulties, especially for people in localities with limited economic development. Therefore, in order to spread the awareness of "green living", relevant departments, branches and units of the province need to promote propaganda about the green growth campaign with many specific actions; encourage the conversion of consumption methods towards sustainability to protect and improve environmental quality... In addition, it is necessary to create more conditions and encourage businesses to proactively improve production processes, innovate technology, produce environmentally friendly products; promote propaganda and raise people's awareness of the meaning and importance of "green consumption" for the living environment and human health.
