During 7 days (from August 16 to 22), public bicycle services were deployed at 79 stations in the capital, with 1,000 vehicles. The stations were arranged in connection with bus stops, parks, and tourist attractions, ensuring that people could walk to access the service conveniently.
There were 16,452 new accounts activated with 7,454 trips, equivalent to 46,894km traveled (average 6.3km/trip).
Mr. Do Ba Dan - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tri Nam Group Joint Stock Company - said that compared to traveling by personal vehicles such as cars and motorbikes, cycling the above distance helps reduce about 2,844 kg of CO2 emissions into the environment, equivalent to the absorption capacity of 135 trees.
According to Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, the development of public bicycles to support other forms of public passenger transport (urban railways, buses) will contribute to improving operational efficiency and diversifying the public passenger transport sector in Hanoi. Thereby, gradually changing people's travel habits, reducing environmental pollution and initially forming an auxiliary network to help connect people to convenient bus stations.
The service applies new technology in its operations, in line with the general development trend of society, creating favorable conditions for users.
For the project to operate effectively, during the 12-month pilot period, the Hanoi People's Committee requested Tri Nam Group Joint Stock Company to monitor and listen to feedback from residents and tourists, in order to improve and enhance service quality.
Along with that, the city assigned the Department of Transport to be responsible for regularly monitoring the implementation situation, after 12 months of piloting, reporting on the quality and effectiveness of the pilot public bicycle service model, advising and proposing to the City People's Committee to consider and decide on the implementation in the following period in accordance with regulations.
