Implementing the Project to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Cao Bang province, thousands of poor households have been supported to build and repair their houses. The spacious and safe houses have motivated families to work with peace of mind, gradually rising out of poverty.
Just last year, a dilapidated house was the home of Ms. Vi Thi Hang and her three children in residential group 3 (Dong Khe town, Thach An district). As a single mother without a stable job, despite her efforts, her income from working for hire was only enough to cover her living expenses, and Ms. Hang never dared to think about building a new house. Faced with the family's difficulties, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Khe town called on and mobilized organizations and individuals to donate 44 million VND and nearly 40 laborers to support the construction of the solidarity house. After 2 months of construction, before the Lunar New Year, Ms. Hang's house was completed with an area of over 40 square meters and a value of over 70 million VND. With a new place to live, the whole family no longer had to worry about the rainy and stormy season, and Ms. Hang also had more motivation to work to raise her children to study and grow up.
In addition to Ms. Hang's family, over the past year, hundreds of policy households and poor households in difficult circumstances in Thach An district have been supported to build new houses. Implementing the Project to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in the period of 2021 - 2025, in the district there are more than 1,340 houses that need to be repaired and renovated with a support budget of over 52 billion VND. To date, the locality has completed and disbursed 831 houses, with a total budget of over 30 billion VND. To complete the set goal, in January 2025, Thach An district launched a 200-day and night peak campaign to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. The whole district strives to support the construction and repair of new houses for 673 poor households and policy households with a total budget of about 26.7 billion VND.
With the highest political determination, Cao Bang province is focusing all resources to accelerate the progress to complete the task of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses by the end of 2025. In Bao Lam district, by the end of January 2025, the district had completed support for eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses for 2,124 households with 1,260 newly built houses and 864 repaired houses. The total disbursed budget is over 80 billion VND. In early February, the Steering Committee for supporting the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses in Bao Lam district launched a 172-day and night peak period to support 1,947 households to build and repair houses. The entire district strives to complete the goal of eliminating 100% of temporary and dilapidated houses for households with meritorious services, relatives of martyrs, poor and near-poor households before August 2025.
Regarding the results of supporting housing construction for local people, Mr. Vu Dinh Quang - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Cao Bang province said that after being selected by the Government to pilot the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, Cao Bang has focused many resources to support housing for policy households and poor households in difficult circumstances. During the implementation process, many localities have had creative ways such as mobilizing the police force as the core force to stay close to the locality, providing direct support to each household.
In addition to the budget support, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees at all levels have mobilized additional funds, materials, and labor days to support households in building and repairing houses.
In 2024, the province had nearly 7,000 poor households and policy families supported to build new and repair houses. After completion, the houses will have an area of 40 - 120m2, ensuring the "3 hard" criteria, the value of the houses after completion is from 50 - 150 million VND/house. In 2025, Cao Bang province aims to eliminate 7,115 temporary and dilapidated houses, of which nearly 4,800 houses are newly built. To complete this task, the Steering Committee for Eliminating Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Cao Bang province has assigned specific targets to each locality based on a review of the actual needs of villages and communes. The whole province strives to complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses before the 20th Provincial Party Congress, term 2025-2030.
