Currently, Quang Yen town has only 11 wards. According to regulations to become a provincial city, Quang Yen still lacks some criteria, including the need to establish 2 new wards to expand the inner city area with 13 wards and 6 communes. It is expected that Hiep Hoa and Tien An communes will be planned to become wards. Recently, the Standing Committee of Quang Ninh Provincial Party Committee gave its opinion on the policy of establishing Hiep Hoa and Tien An wards and establishing Quang Yen city.
Quang Yen is the main gateway of Quang Ninh province to the northern coastal region, adjacent to Hai Phong Port City and Cat Bi Airport. In the past few years, Quang Yen has received strong investment from Quang Ninh province in many aspects.
To continue to develop Quang Yen town in a breakthrough way in the coming time, Quang Yen town is determined by Quang Ninh province to develop into a modern, smart urban area, a processing and manufacturing industrial center of the province and the whole region. The key task for Quang Yen is to complete the infrastructure of Quang Yen coastal economic zone, infrastructure of industrial parks to attract more investors; strive to become a city before 2025...
As a locality with a particularly important position in the development strategy, the new growth nucleus of the western route of the province, striving to become a city will be an important premise for Quang Yen to develop according to the "Smart City" model with smart, modern industrial - service - urban - seaport zones, processing, manufacturing and high-tech industrial centers of the province and the whole region.
Along with Quang Yen, Dong Trieu town is also expected to become a city before 2025. Dong Trieu town has been approved by the Appraisal Council of the Ministry of Construction to achieve an average score of 85.86 points (10.86 points higher than the minimum score required by regulations of 75 points to become a city).
Currently, Quang Ninh province has 4 cities, including: Ha Long, Cam Pha, Uong Bi, Mong Cai.
According to the plan, in addition to Quang Yen town and Dong Trieu town becoming cities before 2025, Quang Ninh will also have Van Don city before 2030.
In addition, Hai Ha and Mong Cai districts will merge to become a new city, meeting the standards of a type 1 urban area before 2030; re-establishing Tien Yen town in 2027...
According to the Quang Ninh Province Urban Development Program, by 2025, Quang Ninh Province will have 13 administrative units with 13 urban areas. By 2030, the whole of Quang Ninh will have 12 district-level administrative units, with 12 urban areas, including 7 cities: Ha Long, Cam Pha, Uong Bi, Mong Cai - Hai Ha, Dong Trieu, Quang Yen, Van Don and Tien Yen town; and the districts: Ba Che, Binh Lieu, Dam Ha, Co To.
