Three years ago, Ms. Lu Thi Mai's family was one of the first households in Dong Tinh village (Quyet Tien commune, Quan Ba district) to convert ineffective corn-growing land to growing vegetables and crops with high economic value. Since the conversion, Ms. Mai's family has focused on growing 3 types of vegetables: tomatoes, cucumbers, and cabbage.

Ms. Lu Thi Mai informed: “With an area of 7,000m2, each year planting and caring for 3 crops in rotation, vegetables have brought my family about 650 million VND. After deducting care costs, the profit is about 350 million VND”.

Toàn huyện Quản Bạ hiện có 162 ha cà chua được trồng theo mô hình bao tiêu sản phẩm đầu ra.
The entire Quan Ba district currently has 162 hectares of tomatoes grown under the output product consumption model.

“To achieve the above results, it is not only necessary to apply science and technology in cultivation, but also to cooperate with a number of businesses to find stable output for agricultural products,” Ms. Mai shared.

Mr. Trieu Van Hoa, a local agricultural product purchasing unit, said: “Our unit has signed a contract to purchase cucumber products with people in Quyet Tien and Tung Vai communes of Quan Ba district. Right from the start of the melon growing season, the unit has provided seeds and sent agricultural technicians to the area to instruct households in the consumption chain on how to plant and care for melon plants to ensure output, productivity and quality. Regarding the cost of the product, the unit will purchase at market prices.”

In the spring-summer crop of 2024 alone, Quan Ba district has implemented 03 models of linking output product consumption with business units. The total production land area in these models is 335 hectares, attracting 620 households to participate. Specifically, with cucumbers, the whole district has 150 hectares being planted with a yield of 35 tons/ha, product prices from 5,000 VND - 14,500 VND/kg, total linkage value of 26 billion VND.

With tomato plants, the whole district has 162 hectares, yield of 35 tons/ha, product price from 5,000 VND - 19,000 VND/kg, total linkage value of 28 billion VND. With chili plants, the whole district has 22.8 hectares, yield of 20 tons/ha, product price is usually over 17,000 VND/kg, total linkage value of 7.7 billion VND...

Chili growing area under the product consumption linkage model always gives high productivity.

In addition, the connecting points have purchased about 11,300 tons of vegetables, tubers, and fruits in the district to supply to the markets of Hanoi city, Bac Giang province, Bac Ninh province, Nam Dinh province, etc. In particular, agricultural products of Quan Ba district have been exported to some neighboring countries such as Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. The total value of linking the consumption of agricultural products reached about 62.3 billion VND.

Informing the Ethnic and Development Newspaper, Mr. Pham Ngoc Pha, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quan Ba district said: "In recent years, in Quan Ba district, flexibility in production and business, opening the market, applying safe and effective production methods for agricultural products have been implemented quite well. This has created a stable source of income for farmers."

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quan Ba district also emphasized that in order to achieve the desired results, the agricultural "diplomacy" factor has been and is being strongly promoted by the locality through trade promotion activities, attracting businesses and companies to participate in the chain, thereby removing barriers in science and technology, creating motivation for people to feel secure in planting and producing.

The biggest problem at present is that the awareness level of some people in the localities in the district is still uneven, so it is difficult to replicate the models simultaneously. Small-scale farming is also the reason why agricultural products are difficult to become commodities. Therefore, Quan Ba district will continue to research and have specific solutions, suitable to the reality of each region and the farming habits and capabilities of the people, thereby helping people gradually shift from traditional agricultural production to commodity agricultural production.
