Talking about the economic conditions of the Bo Y people, Chairman of Quyet Tien Commune People's Committee - Mr. Nguyen Viet Tien said: The whole commune has 180 households, with 626 people living in the villages of Nam Luong, Tan Tien, Lung Thang, Bo Lach... Of which, the largest concentration is in Nam Luong village, with 110 households and 321 people. The economic life of the Bo Y ethnic group in the locality is relatively stable, from self-sufficient production labor, up to now many households have switched to commodity production; average income from 3-5 million VND/month/household. The main source of income is from agricultural production, livestock, cultivation and growing vegetables of all kinds. Looking at the poverty rate of the whole commune, it can be seen that the life of the Bo Y ethnic group has improved.
In particular, in recent years, thanks to support resources from the National Target Programs: New Rural Areas; Sustainable Poverty Reduction and the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2030 period, Phase I from 2021-2025 (National Target Program 1719), the cultural, spiritual and economic life of the Bo Y people in Quyet Tien has had many positive changes.
According to local reports, implementing the Project to support socio-economic development of ethnic minorities with very few people in the period of 2016 - 2025, the cadres and people of Quyet Tien commune have built 2 concrete roads 3km long with a total cost of more than 3.7 billion VND in Nam Luong village; Supported 07 Bo Y ethnic households to build and repair houses using the capital of the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction, with a total cost of more than 240 million VND; Opened classes to teach traditional culture, purchased equipment for the Bo Y ethnic cultural house in Nam Luong, Hoang Lan village...
However, in the process of implementing ethnic policies in the locality, there are still certain difficulties. Specifically, the Bo Y ethnic group in Quyet Tien commune is one of 14 ethnic groups with specific difficulties in the period of 2021 - 2025 according to Decision No. 1227/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister; is the beneficiary of investment resources and support from Sub-project 1 - Project 9 under the National Target Program 1719, but because Quyet Tien is a commune in region I, not in the investment area of the Sub-project, the Bo Y ethnic group in Quyet Tien commune has not yet benefited from direct investment resources from the policy for ethnic groups with specific difficulties.
Also according to Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Viet Tien: Along with changes in economic life, the level of awareness and education of the Bo Y people have many positive changes. Children of the Bo Y people are supported by the State with tuition fees and many other preferential policies.
Currently, in the local Bo Y ethnic community, there is 01 master; 26 people with university and college degrees; 30 people with intermediate degrees. The number of Bo Y people participating in social work is also gradually increasing.
In particular, Quyet Tien commune is also one of the localities of Quan Ba district that always cares and focuses on preserving the national cultural identity. Especially the preservation and promotion of Bo Y ethnic costumes.
A local resident said that the Bo Y people often wear short five-panel shirts with a slit on the right armpit. The collar and sleeves are sewn or embroidered with colorful patterns. Bo Y women's costumes are more beautiful and unique than men's costumes, thanks to the headscarf, skirt and apron in the front. Bo Y women's skirts are woven in many colors such as blue, red, purple, gray and indigo... Usually on important occasions, Bo Y people wear traditional costumes.
Thanks to support policies, most Bo Y women know how to weave and sew traditional costumes. Each costume takes about 10 days to complete. In addition, since 2015, the Bo Y ethnic community cultural house has been built in Nam Luong village in the traditional style of the people.
On the journey to visit the stone plateau, visitors can stop, explore and learn about more than 60 artifacts and images of daily life utensils, culture, life, production and spirit of the Bo Y people. From there, visitors can understand in general about the life of the Bo Y people in the Global Geopark.
It can be seen that the implementation of support policies for ethnic minorities in recent times has contributed to positive changes in the material and spiritual life of the Bo Y people in Quan Ba, Ha Giang. The impressive thing is that currently, the Bo Y people no longer have the mentality of waiting and relying on the support policies of the State, but are very proactive in striving to eliminate hunger and reduce poverty, joining hands to build their homeland to develop more and more.
