Nguyen Bao Chau won the Tien Phong Golf Championship 2024 with a score of 71 strokes (-1). The 12-year-old golfer became the first female athlete to win the tournament.
Bao Chau has also been playing golf for a short time, starting in 2020. This golfer, still in school age, is also the youngest Vietnamese person to enter the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). The student from Nguyen Trai Secondary School has started to reap some achievements recently, such as winning the 4th leg of the VGA Junior Tour 2023 U12 women's tournament and winning the women's tournament at the Hanoi Junior Tour Open Summer Holiday Leg 6 2024.
"I was very happy and excited to know that I became the champion of the prestigious Tien Phong Golf Championship 2024. When entering the tournament, I only set the goal of playing as well as possible and achieving a good ranking, but I was really surprised when the result I achieved led to the Best Gross position," Bao Chau shared.
Tien Phong Golf Championship 2024 ended with the championship belonging to 12-year-old athlete Nguyen Bao Chau.
Bao Chau's victory was a big surprise. The leading candidates for the championship of Tien Phong Golf Championship 2024 are Nguyen Duc Son and Le Minh Nghia.
Defending champion Nguyen Duc Son entered the Tien Phong Golf Championship 2024 determined to retain his title. However, the golfer born in 2007 achieved a score of 73 strokes (+1). This result is far below his own achievement last season, 69 strokes (-3).
Tien Phong Golf Championship is an annual tournament held since 2017, aiming to develop young golfers. This year is the second consecutive season that the Organizing Committee has opened a separate youth category, supporting 60% of the participation fee for talents under 18 years old, and free for former champions, as well as golfers who won in the VGA Junior Tour youth tournament system.
Tien Phong Golf Championship - For Young Vietnamese Talents has become one of the few grassroots tournaments today that creates conditions for young golfers to compete in a competitive environment, thereby improving their techniques and skills.
