The new Windows 11 will require mandatory Microsoft account login

(CLO) In a new announcement on March 29, Microsoft officially removed the bypassnro.cmd script - a tool favored by many users to bypass the Microsoft account login requirement when installing Windows 11.

According to an announcement from Windows Insider Program Lead Amanda Langowski and product manager Brandon LeBlanc, the removal of bypassnro is an intentional change to "enhance security and user experience" and ensure that all users complete Windows setup with an internet connection and a Microsoft account.

The bypassnro feature was previously considered a "lifesaver" for users who wanted to set up a computer without a Microsoft account, especially useful in cases such as: Installing a computer in an area without internet; users want to use a traditional Local account; avoid notifications and advertisements from Microsoft and protect personal privacy.

Despite the benefits of a Microsoft account, including OneDrive sync, automatic hard drive encryption, and recovery key backup, many users are unhappy with Microsoft's decision. Experts say this is a move to strengthen the Microsoft ecosystem, but at the same time, it also limits users' control over the system.

For now, bypassnro still works on Windows 11 24H2 (released late 2024). The new change is only available on Dev Channel build 26200 and is expected to be widely deployed in the 25H2 update this fall.
