Nam Dinh Provincial People's Committee agreed to allow Xuan Thuy National Park to develop a dossier and nominate it to become an ASEAN Heritage Park . This National Park is responsible for coordinating with relevant units to develop a dossier that ensures compliance with procedures and instructions of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
Xuan Thuy National Park has a total area of 14,500 hectares, of which more than 7,100 hectares is the core zone and more than 7,300 hectares is the buffer zone, located in 5 communes of Giao Thien, Giao An, Giao Lac, Giao Xuan, Giao Hai of Giao Thuy district.
This is not only the most typical tidal estuarine alluvial plain for the coastal ecosystem of the Red River Delta but also an important "bird station" for international migratory birds.
In 1988, Xuan Thuy National Park was officially recognized internationally as a Ramsar site. In October 2004, UNESCO recognized Xuan Thuy National Park as the number 1 important area of the Red River Delta Biosphere Reserve, which affirmed the special international status of this national park.
