At 7:00 a.m. on January 23, while performing a patrol and control mission near Da Nam Island, Truong Sa Archipelago, ship 471 of Naval Region 4 received orders from superiors to mobilize to approach and rescue 5 fishermen on fishing boat BD 96827 TS that ran aground about 33 nautical miles southeast of Song Tu Tay Island.

Information from the Naval Region 4 Command on the evening of January 23 said that immediately after receiving the order, officers and soldiers of ship 471 worked, contacted, urgently deployed search plans, approached and left at 7:30 a.m. After 4 hours of maneuvering in northeast wind conditions of level 5-6, at 11:30 a.m. the same day, ship 471 approached the area of fishing boat BD 96827 TS. However, due to the fishing boat being stranded and big waves, it broke and almost sank. The fishermen on the nearby boat were brought aboard by ship 471 which lowered a boat at 2:00 p.m. to ensure safety.
It is known that fishing boat BD 96827 TS is captained by Mr. Vo Ngoc Dang, born in 1979, hometown Hoai Huong ward, Hoai Nhon town, Binh Dinh province. The boat was fishing for ocean tuna, departing on January 5, 2024 at Tam Quan fishing port, Binh Dinh province. During the exploitation and fishing process, boat BD 96827 TS ran aground, due to big waves that pushed and smashed and sank the fishing boat.
Currently, 5 fishermen were brought onto ship 471 and were examined and cared for by the medical team. Their health is normal.
At 7:30 p.m. on January 23, ship 471 brought the fishermen to Song Tu Tay Island and anchored safely. It is expected that at 7:30 a.m. this morning, January 24, ship 471 will hand over the fishermen to the authorities as planned.
