The 2023 summer-autumn rice crop in Ha Tinh has ended with much joy. The series of main rice varieties in the fields continue to affirm their outstanding productivity when farmers ensure the crop schedule, focus on care and good control of pests and diseases.
For farmers in the area outside Duc Tho dike, summer-autumn rice production is always accompanied by worries about the weather. People worry about whether their efforts during the crop season will pay off when floods are always “waiting” and many years they have to endure the situation of “heaven shows but does not give food”.
However, this year, Mr. Le Tuan Anh (Phuc Loc village, Bui La Nhan commune) as well as thousands of farmers outside the dike are excited because the weather is favorable, the rice crop is good and the price is good.

Mr. Le Tuan Anh excitedly said: “As an area outside the dike, often heavily affected by natural disasters and floods, we are always proactive in production. This crop, my family has 1.7 hectares of rice fields. The whole crop, we have been careful about watering, fertilizing, and taking care of the rice, and finally we have a “golden harvest”. Thanks to following the crop calendar and choosing high-quality, short-term varieties such as Nep 98, BT09..., the rice yield is high, reaching about 2.8 quintals/sao. Not only is the crop good, but fresh rice is also purchased by traders right at the field at the highest price in many years (about 6,500 VND/kg). Therefore, farmers are more motivated to stick to the fields, stick to the fields”.
Along with Bui La Nhan commune, farmers in Duc Tho district are also happy when the summer-autumn rice crop is a complete success in terms of variety structure, crop calendar, yield and quality of rice. Mr. Bui Khac Phong - Deputy Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Duc Tho district said: "This summer-autumn crop, the whole district produced 3,977 hectares of high-quality, high-yield rice varieties such as: Lai Thom, Nep 98, Nep 97, Huong Binh...
Local authorities at all levels and specialized sectors have focused on closely directing and urging people to plant crops according to the crop schedule and control crop diseases well. Moreover, thanks to the tradition of intensive agricultural production and the care of the people, Duc Tho's summer-autumn rice yielded 47.08 quintals/ha (1.08 quintals/ha higher than the summer-autumn crop in 2022) and the rice quality was good. This is the driving force for local authorities and farmers to continue implementing the policy of land accumulation in the spring rice crop in 2024."

In addition to Duc Tho, localities with good intensive farming level, summer-autumn rice all have high and quite uniform yield such as: Cam Xuyen, Can Loc, Thach Ha... This summer-autumn crop, Can Loc district planted nearly 9,000 hectares. The locality prioritizes the selection of key varieties, with outstanding advantages in yield and quality such as: Hoa Phat 3, Bac Thinh, Nep 98, Huong Binh...
Mr. Phan Cao Ky - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Loc district informed: "Favorable weather, suitable seed structure, proactive water source and good control of pests and diseases, so the summer-autumn rice grows and develops well. At the end of the crop, the rice yield reached a high level of 53.48 quintals/ha (higher than the summer-autumn crop in 2022 and higher than the average yield of the province in the summer-autumn crop in 2023 of 3.2 quintals/ha)".
Can Loc is a "bright spot" of Ha Tinh in terms of land accumulation, breaking the banks of the fields, concentrating production on large-scale fields with uniform varieties, science and technology... to increase crop productivity. Up to now, the whole district has over 3,000 hectares of concentrated rice production, in which pioneering localities such as: Thuan Thien, Vuong Loc, Khanh Vinh Yen, Tung Loc, Nghen town... This process also creates motivation for people, cooperatives, and cooperatives to invest heavily in production, developing agricultural economy in the direction of goods.
Summer-autumn rice in 2023 is purchased by traders at the field at high prices.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung - Director of Ha Vang Agricultural Service and Trade Cooperative (Vuong Loc commune, Can Loc) happily said: "Land accumulation is a major policy to help farmers start producing goods, increasing product value. This crop, the cooperative produces in the direction of land accumulation on an area of over 30 hectares with high-quality rice varieties, high yield from 3 - 3.2 quintals/sao. The rice crop is good and the price is good, so farmers basically sell fresh rice, collect money right at the field."
According to Mr. Nguyen Tri Ha - Head of the Ha Tinh Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection, in the complicated and unpredictable weather conditions of the summer-autumn crop, the direction of selecting varieties has been carefully considered by the professional sector since the beginning of the crop. Focusing on using stable varieties and continuing to produce new high-quality rice varieties suitable for the ecological conditions of each locality is one of the important factors determining the success of this crop.
Accordingly, in the summer-autumn crop of 2023, the whole province produced 44,568/44,891 hectares of rice, reaching 99.3% of the plan. Regarding the variety structure, localities mainly sowed varieties with a growing period of less than 110 days. Of which, the group of widely adaptable and stable varieties such as: Huong Thom 1, Thien Uu 8, Xuan Mai, Nep 98 accounted for 79.5% of the area; the group of promising varieties: Ha Phat 3, ND502, HD11... accounted for 10.9% of the area, the remaining area was a number of other varieties.
Immediately after the summer-autumn rice harvest, many localities have mobilized to accumulate and convert land to prepare for spring crop production in 2024.
In general, this year's summer-autumn crop took place under relatively favorable weather conditions; some pests and diseases such as leaf rollers and sheath blight appeared on small areas and were soon controlled, so crops grew and developed well.
At the end of the season, localities have proactively accelerated the harvest to ensure safety before the storm season. This year's summer-autumn rice crop was a total success with an average yield of 50.28 quintals/ha (equivalent to the 2022 summer-autumn crop) and an estimated output of 224,093 tons.
