According to statistics up to this point, in Bac Lieu province, more than 12,600 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice have fallen over, of which the area damaged by less than 30% is more than 2,200 hectares; the area damaged by 30-70% is nearly 7,800 hectares; the area damaged by 70% or more is 2,650 hectares and nearly 220 hectares of rice have been completely lost and cannot be harvested.
Up to now, Bac Lieu has harvested more than 52,700 hectares of Summer-Autumn rice. Currently, there are more than 6,000 hectares of late Summer-Autumn rice waiting to be harvested and the harvest is very slow due to the impact of continuous storms and rains. In addition, because this Summer-Autumn rice area is scattered and not concentrated, it is even more difficult to speed up the harvest progress.
According to the forecast of the Bac Lieu Province Hydrometeorological Station, heavy rains will continue in the coming days and the water from the Hau River will flow in large quantities, making the organization of pumping and harvesting rice in the coming time even more difficult.
After inspecting the actual situation in two localities where the Summer-Autumn rice area was affected and damaged by storms and rains, namely Hoa Binh and Vinh Loi districts, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu directed the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to develop a flexible water regulation schedule and promptly open drainage sluices to prevent flooding to protect production.
Continue to closely monitor the weather situation, warn of heavy rain so that people can proactively prevent and respond to reduce damage, prepare measures to drain water and protect production. Specialized units and localities need to strengthen the work of inspecting and monitoring sewer systems, pumping stations and closed irrigation systems to drain water to prevent flooding.
In addition, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested functional agencies to coordinate with local authorities to develop investment plans to expand closed dike blocks with electric pumping stations to serve production, especially during the rainy and stormy season...
To help farmers in the province harvest quickly, reduce damage to the remaining Summer-Autumn rice fields and not affect the production season of the following crops, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Bac Lieu has also coordinated with localities to urgently mobilize combine harvesters to support farmers, focusing on harvesting the remaining Summer-Autumn rice fields as soon as possible, without waiting for traders to come and buy.
Farmers in the province are also actively reinforcing embankments, pumping water to drain water from the fields, preventing waterlogging and creating favorable conditions for combine harvesters to operate.
