'Special weapon' noticed by General Phan Van Giang during training inspection

At the tank and armored unit, General Phan Van Giang asked about the advantages of soldiers' hats. This type of hat is produced by the army itself, specifically for soldiers participating in parades.

In addition, the general also paid attention to the weapons used by the soldiers, which were the Vietnamese submachine guns (STV) 215. The general assessed that this type of gun was very good. However, he said that the appearance of the gun should be changed in terms of the chamber and the base. The current magazine is curved to make it easier to "bend out and push in", but it must be considered whether the magazine needs to be curved exactly like the AK gun.

General Phan Van Giang suggested a new design to make the magazine straighter. "This magazine is still the same as the AK gun, so it needs to be designed with its own unique features, unlike anyone else's," the general said.

According to Thanh Nien , there are 3 types of submachine guns produced by Vietnam equipped for the parade training blocks at National Training Center 4 (My Duc District, Hanoi). They are STV 380, STV 215 and STV 022. These guns are being mass produced by the General Department of Defense Industry to replace the AK-47 submachine gun.

STV 380 is an automatic gun, equipped for individuals to fight and destroy enemy forces. The gun is designed according to the principle of extracting gunpowder gas to automatically reload for the next shot. The gun has a rail to mount day and night sights and flashlights. STV 380 weighs 4.1 kg (when loaded), uses 7.62 mm bullets, each magazine has 30 bullets, muzzle velocity of 700 m/s with a range of 300 m and can fire 700 - 950 rounds/minute.

The STV 215 and STV 022 submachine guns also have the same operating principle as the STV 380 submachine gun. However, the STV 215's effective firing range is only about 250 m, with a muzzle velocity of 615 m/s, when carrying a 3.7 kg bullet.

Meanwhile, the STV 022 is an improvement of the previous two types, so it is lighter, shorter, and each magazine only has 15 rounds to suit training and combat. Although the magazine only has 15 rounds, this gun is highly appreciated by the leaders of the Ministry of Defense.
