From left to right: Bich Tram, Quoc Thao and Hong Loan in the play "Trend Swing"
Artist Quoc Thao is the author and director of the play "Du trend", considered the "nail" of the repertoire when he moved from stage 81 Tran Quoc Thao to Phu Nhuan Stage (Phu Nhuan Cultural Center - formerly Hong Van Drama Stage - PV).
He was supported by the artist couple Bich Tram, Linh Ty and young actors who were all his students. After 4 performances during the Tet season, the play sold out, attracting a large audience.
Director Quoc Thao always creates opportunities for young actors.
First of all, the play's story is quite simple, the content is about Mr. Sau Dom (performed by artist Quoc Thao), the owner of a catfish farm in the West, with a gentle and honest wife, Mrs. Sau (Bich Tram).
In contrast to his wife, Sau Dom is naive and fame-hungry... Because he wants to be famous, he decided to go to Saigon to try his hand, dreaming of owning a personal information channel with millions of visitors.
Sau Dom did not hesitate to spend a lot of money to hire 5 "famous" people on social networks to come to his house to impart their experiences so that he could become a person of social networks.
Actresses Mai Kim Lien and Truong Phuc created charming laughter in the play "Du trend"
After being renamed "Six Dom", he used all of his wife's savings to spend lavishly. He played the role of a tycoon with ridiculous acts. And it was these extravagant acts that led to many unexpected situations.
To be worthy of his new position, he wants to turn his daughter Lai (Hong Loan) into a "virtual" young lady. He prevents her love for a boy from the same hometown named Sam (Ba Thang).
Luckily, the maid Osen (Mai Kim Lien) returned to her hometown and told him everything. The ending was quite surprising and interesting, destroying Mr. Sau Dom's dream of living a virtual life.
Actors Ba Thang and Hong Loan in the play "Du trend"
The play's structure is quite simple, but each scene directed by Quoc Thao has its own highlights. He structured the music with many emotional levels to represent the characters' moods.
Besides, the director creates many dramatic twists so that through each scene, the drama erupts with conflicts.
The laughter is therefore created by very unexpected situations. Although the audience can guess the ending, which breaks the illusion of the main character, they still wait to watch and are attracted by the very charming performances of the young actors who are students of director Quoc Thao.
The most anticipated character is Hong Loan. It can be said that with only 20 days of rehearsal, a girl who has never acted before confidently plays Lai. And Hong Loan's fear matches the mood of a country girl who follows her father to the city, worried and confused by the virtual world of idols on social networks.
Preferring to live in an uncertain virtual world, Mr. Sau Dom almost lost everything because of his greed for fame.
Artists Bich Tram and Linh Ty have been a solid support for the young cast. Both of them act and support their juniors so that the play can achieve its goal: to warn and help relatives escape from scammers on social networks.
"Trend chasing" - as the name of the play suggests, quickly captured the corresponding sayings, actions, movements, attitudes... on social networks. And the saying "must be on trend by all means" made the characters go crazy, frantically chasing after virtual goals.
Staging a play that creates reasonable laughter, hidden behind it are meaningful educational lessons, the audience expects Quoc Thao theater to have many new works.
Besides laughter, the audience enjoyed that in addition to the relaxing moments of the play, the play also sent them many meaningful lessons of contemplation.
The trend of being seen as fashionable, disregarding everything to be famous always means losing. Because, "Following the trend" cannot exist because of virtual, incorrect values in a civilized, developed society.
For her first appearance on stage, Hong Loan has completed her role well. Director Quoc Thao has guided her, along with sincere comments from Bich Tram, Linh Ty and her co-stars, the daughter of the late Meritorious Artist Vu Linh has made efforts to respond to the love and support of the audience for her.
"Trendy" will have more performances on the 6th and 8th of Tet at the new location of Quoc Thao stage in Phu Nhuan district, Ho Chi Minh City.
