They are the couple Bui Phuong Linh (1992) and Pham Thanh Tung (1992), both graduated with a PhD from the TH Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), Harvard University.

Previously, on April 12, 2024, Mr. Pham Thanh Tung defended his doctoral thesis on "The Effect of Hereditary and Lifestyle Risk Factors on Colorectal Adenoma and Colorectal Cancer Risk" at the Department of Epidemiology, TH Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), Harvard University.

Just a few days later, on April 24, 2024, Ms. Bui Phuong Linh defended her doctoral thesis on "Planetary Health Diet Index" at the Department of Nutrition, TH Chan School of Public Health (HSPH), Harvard University.

Attending the ceremony with two close friends and colleagues, Dr. Truong Nguyen Xuan Quynh - lecturer at VinUni University - shared with Tuoi Tre Online that she felt proud and respected when witnessing the two friends achieving worthy results for their achievements.

That is because while studying for his PhD in Cancer Epidemiology at HSPH, Mr. Pham Thanh Tung also obtained a master's degree in Biomedical Statistics from Harvard. He was awarded the certificate of excellent teaching assistant (2023) and the teaching assistant of the year award (2024) of the Department of Epidemiology, HSPH for his teaching ability and significant contributions to improving the department's curriculum.

Ms. Bui Phuong Linh, while studying for her PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology at HSPH, also obtained two additional Master's degrees in Biomedical Statistics and Epidemiology at Harvard.

During their PhD studies at Harvard, the couple had their first child. Dr. Truong Nguyen Xuan Quynh still remembers the image of Phuong Linh, 8 months pregnant, still sitting at the computer coding and analyzing data like a "superhero", while Thanh Tung "took care of his wife giving birth, taking care of their child, and doing research and writing scientific articles regularly".

"It's very hard for the two of you to study for a PhD at a big university. You also have to do research, study and teach as a teaching assistant. Thanh Tung also won the Harvard teaching award this year. You two also stay up all night to support mentors for domestic research projects. The funding for some research is also paid for by you two," said Ms. Xuan Quynh.

The newly-graduated couple Pham Thanh Tung and Bui Phuong Linh will soon share with Tuoi Tre Online readers.

It is known that Dr. Pham Thanh Tung graduated from Hanoi Medical University in 2015 and completed the Master of Public Health program at Johns Hopkins University (JH) in 2017 with a full scholarship from the Vietnam Education Foundation (VEF) and JH University.

He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Physiology, Hanoi Medical University, and a part-time lecturer at VinUni University.
