With this new route, Vietnam Airlines becomes the first and only Vietnamese airline to operate direct flights to Italy.
Accordingly, Vietnam Airlines will operate flights between Hanoi and Milan using Boeing 787 wide-body aircraft with three round trips per week, departing on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. After 2025, Vietnam Airlines plans to open more direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Milan.
The Hanoi - Milan route will increase the total number of direct flights of the airline to Europe to 9. Currently, Vietnam Airlines is the only airline in Vietnam operating direct flights between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Paris (France), Frankfurt (Germany), London (UK). In early October, the airline will launch direct flights between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Munich (Germany).
On the occasion of opening a new route, Vietnam Airlines is offering attractive round-trip fares starting from only VND 14,800,000 (including taxes and fees) for flights departing from July 1, 2025 to July 31, 2025; and fares starting from VND 17,325,000 (including taxes and fees) for flights departing from August 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025.

Vietnam and Italy have had more than 50 years of diplomatic relations (1973-2024) and 11 years of strategic partnership (2013-2024). Currently, Vietnam is Italy's largest trading partner in ASEAN and Italy is Vietnam's 4th largest European Union (EU) partner with bilateral trade turnover continuously increasing over the years.
Italy is also considered one of the potential markets for Vietnam's aviation industry. In 2023, the number of Italian visitors to Vietnam will reach 81,000, equivalent to 89% of the pre-COVID-19 period in 2019.
In the first quarter of 2024, the number of visitors from Italy to Vietnam exceeded 32% compared to the same period in 2019. On the other hand, Italy is also becoming a favorite destination, increasingly attracting Vietnamese people.
Located in the heart of Europe, Milan is the second largest city in Italy and is known as the largest fashion capital in the world. The number of visitors from Milan to Vietnam in 2023 reached 37.8 thousand, 1.4% higher than in 2019. In the first quarter of 2024, the number of visitors from Milan to Vietnam was 24% higher than the same period in 2019.
Vietnam Airlines expects the Milan route to not only attract passengers from Italy, but also connect customers from neighboring European countries. According to the airline's statistics, European routes have shown a good recovery after the pandemic and are showing a positive growth trend.
By opening a direct flight to Italy, Vietnam Airlines continues to affirm its position as the National Airline in its efforts to expand its flight network connecting Vietnam with the world and providing more attractive travel options for passengers. In addition, the direct flight will also contribute significantly to promoting economic, social and political exchanges between Vietnam and Italy and Europe.
