On October 15 and 18, nearly 50 tons of fresh coconuts from Vietnamese enterprises were officially exported to China through border gates in Lao Cai province.
Also on October 15, a shipment of 22.4 tons of fresh coconuts, worth 98,000 CNY (Chinese Yuan), was transported to the Youyiguan border gate in Pingxiang City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and after passing inspection, was cleared into the Chinese market.
This fresh coconut shipment originated from Ben Tre province, with a collection and transportation time of about 3 days to the border gate, customs clearance time of less than 2 hours, the destination is Hunan province, located deep inland in China.
Previously, from August 2024, Vietnamese fresh coconut products were licensed by Chinese authorities.
With the export of the above official fresh coconut shipments, fresh coconut exports are expected to grow well in the coming time, but authorities recommend that people, localities, and businesses pay special attention: fresh coconuts from Vietnam exported to China include fresh coconuts (whole fruit with green shells and stems shorter than or equal to 5cm and coconuts without shells) must comply with the laws on plant quarantine, regulations and standards related to food safety and hygiene of China, and not be contaminated with plant quarantine species that China is concerned about.
Before exporting, plant quarantine officers conduct plant quarantine inspections and take 2% samples. In the first 2 years, if no plant quarantine violations are detected, the sampling rate will be reduced to 1%.
According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, as of August 2024, fresh coconut exports reached more than 100 million USD, up 71% over the same period last year, making it the 6th highest value export item after durian, dragon fruit, banana, mango, and jackfruit. Meanwhile, processed coconut exports reached nearly 152 million USD, up 52% over the same period last year, making it the highest value processed fruit and vegetable item.
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association predicts that in the last months of the year, Vietnam's fresh coconut exports to China will continue to increase strongly.
