That was the affirmation of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet when answering the press before the official visit of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife to Türkiye to attend the World Climate Action Summit taking place from November 28 to December 3.

Vietnam strives to fulfill its commitment to net zero emissions by 2050

In the context that climate change continues to be the biggest global challenge, attracting the attention of the international community with the participation of 130 heads of state and prime ministers of countries, Deputy Minister Viet said that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at this event is extremely important.

Because of the serious impacts of climate change, countries need to take urgent and strong actions to achieve the goal of the Paris Agreement to keep global temperature increase at 1.5 degrees Celsius. In particular, developed countries need to take the lead and support developing countries.

This climate change adaptation conference is within the framework of the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ( COP28 ). Therefore, Vietnam expects to see substantial progress in the commitments of the parties.

It is up to countries to continue taking strong actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and achieve a sustainable and equitable energy transition.

Developed countries have made commitments to provide finance and support technology transfer to developing countries. The goal is to mobilize 100 billion USD per year and increase the commitment for the period from 2025 to 2030, and to establish a loss and damage fund for countries suffering losses in response to climate change.

According to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, since Vietnam's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 at COP26, made by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in 2021, the Government, ministries, sectors and localities have taken drastic actions to realize the goal.

Among these, it is possible to mention the approval of Power Plan 8 with a significant increase in the position and contribution of renewable energy in Vietnam's overall electricity generation.

Vietnam also participates in the Political Declaration on Just Energy Transition (JETP) with a number of international partners, thereby attracting resources for implementing a just energy transition in Vietnam.

Notably, according to Deputy Minister Viet, at this conference, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is expected to announce a number of new initiatives and commitments of Vietnam to best respond to climate change with the international community in the coming time.

The first official visit of the Vietnamese Prime Minister to Türkiye

Regarding the official visit to Turkey and bilateral activities in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the occasion of COP28, Deputy Minister Viet said that this event took place on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Vietnam establishing diplomatic relations with Turkey and the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations with the UAE. This is also the first official visit of a Vietnamese Prime Minister to Turkey.

"The visit is expected to contribute to strengthening political trust and creating new, breakthrough momentum for Vietnam's cooperation with Türkiye and the UAE in all areas, from economics, trade, investment, to new areas of cooperation such as innovation, science, technology, energy..." - Mr. Viet expressed.

Furthermore, this is also the Prime Minister’s second visit to the Middle East in just two months. This helps to spread the message of Vietnam’s strong commitment and interest in promoting multifaceted cooperation with the potential Middle East region .

During this visit, in addition to meetings with senior leaders and politicians of the countries, the Prime Minister will also attend and speak at business forums and seminars, and receive leading businesses, corporations, and investment funds from Türkiye and the UAE, thereby opening up more markets for Vietnamese export goods.
