Designer Viet Hung has a special love for Ao Dai. He diligently launches new collections and presents Ao Dai in many activities and events in Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities with the desire to spread the love of Ao Dai to more people.

Every teacher is an Ao Dai ambassador

Designer Viet Hung said he has been maintaining the Ao Dai Journey for over 10 years. Every year he donates from 5,000 to 10,000 Ao Dai sets to teachers in remote areas across the country.

In 2024 alone, designer Viet Hung donated more than 10,000 ao dai.

He told Tuoi Tre Online that giving ao dai to teachers in remote areas aims to compensate for some of the disadvantages, and at the same time inspire students' love of ao dai through teachers.

"Teachers are all ao dai ambassadors because they wear ao dai to class every day. For this reason, Hung has maintained the ao dai giving activity for over 10 years," designer Viet Hung added.

In early 2025, he donated hundreds of Ao Dai to teachers in Dak Nong province. According to the plan, this March, which is also the month of Ao Dai, the designer will donate Ao Dai to teachers in Gia Lai, Kon Tum, Dak Lak and Binh Dinh provinces.

11 seasons with the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival

Designer Viet Hung is one of the designers who has been associated with the Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival since its first season, 11 times held.

Within the framework of this year's Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival , designer Viet Hung introduced two new Ao Dai collections : Growing up with the city and Khan ran kien trung .

The Growing Up with the City collection has 53 designs including 50 designs printed with images of 50 typical tourist destinations of Ho Chi Minh City such as: Hung Kings Memorial Temple, Thieng Lieng Island (Can Gio), Vam Sat Can Gio Eco-tourism Area, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh City Post Office, Zoo and Botanical Garden, Independence Palace historical site, Ho Chi Minh City Museum, Ho Chi Minh City River Festival, Ho Chi Minh City Ao Dai Festival...

The remaining three designs feature floral motifs typical of the three regions including peach blossom, lotus blossom and apricot blossom.

Designer Viet Hung told Tuoi Tre Online that there were 40 models and 10 artists (MC Quynh Hoa, singer Kyo York, Quoc Dai...) along with beauty queens Ha Kieu Anh, Bao Ngoc and Thanh Thuy performing.

Ho Chi Minh City destinations included in the collection

The collection of "Khan Ran Kien Trung" is inspired by the design of the "Khan Ran" which is considered a symbol of the South.

The special feature of this collection is hand-painted on velvet, recreating the space and natural scenery typical of the South such as: monkey bridges, leaf walls, water wharves...

"Painting by hand on velvet is difficult, drawing a portrait of a person on velvet is even more difficult, but Hung was determined to do it to convey the message of the collection.

These patterns combined with checkered fabric create unique designs. This design only needs to be simplified a little to be highly applicable" - Nguyen Viet Hung confided.

Ao dai has never been cheaper than now?

Designer Viet Hung wondered if ao dai had ever been as cheap as it is now, with just over 100,000 VND you can have a set of ao dai. He once tried buying a pair of ao dai for men and women for only 145,000 VND.

He commented that the ao dai were cheap with industrial materials, the stitching was not carefully sewn, had many errors, and the shape was broken.

"Nowadays, many people wear Ao Dai without paying attention to their figure and without showing off their curves. Wearing a messy Ao Dai is strange but not beautiful.

This shows the ease in dressing of many people, I hope the shirt will be returned to its true value" - designer Viet Hung confided.
