Go through the legendary land

Coming to Hung Temple, Phu Tho is coming to the land of legends. Stepping up each step like a "door" opening the way back to time, passing through 225 stone steps along the mountainside, we arrived at Ha Temple - where mother Au Co gave birth to a sac of 100 eggs, which hatched into 100 children. Legend has it that because father Lac Long Quan was of the Dragon lineage and could not live on land, when his children grew up, he discussed with his mother to divide the children to expand the territory, 50 children followed their father down to the sea, 50 children followed their mother up to the mountains. On the long journey of thousands of miles, mother and her children arrived at Hien Luong village, Ha Hoa district, Son Tay town to reclaim land and establish villages, teach people to grow rice, grow mulberry, raise silkworms and weave cloth. The eldest son stayed behind to succeed his father and established the Van Lang State - the first State of the Vietnamese people, with its capital in Phong Chau, and passed down 18 generations of Hung Kings to rule the country for 2621 years (from the year of Nham Tuat 2879 to 258 BC)...

In the “Hung Vuong Legend” it is said: “In the past, the King traveled everywhere but could not find a place to establish his capital. He came to an area in front of which three rivers converged, on both sides were Tan Vien and Tam Dao, near and far hills and mountains, winding streams, the terrain was like a tiger crouching and a dragon paying homage, generals shooting crossbows, horses running and phoenixes flying. In the middle of those lush green hills, there was a mountain that suddenly emerged like a mother elephant lying among her calves. The King climbed the mountain and looked in all four directions, saw alluvial soil on three sides, green trees, fresh flowers and sweet grass on all four sides, both overlapping and winding, wide and flat, narrow and deep. The King was delighted and praised that this was truly a land suitable for all people, dangerous enough to protect, with a position to open, a stable terrain, able to build a country for all generations. King Hung established his capital there and called it Phong Chau citadel. This citadel was wide from the confluence of the Bach Hac River to the lands around Nghia Linh mountain...”. That is the area of ​​Viet Tri city today.

Among the millions of people returning to the land of the ancestors these days, there are some elderly people who are at a rare age but still travel hundreds of kilometers to make a pilgrimage to Nghia Linh mountain to offer incense before the altar of the ancestors. Mrs. Pham Thi Thong (75 years old, in Thanh Hoa) emotionally shared: after nearly 35 years of returning here, I am very surprised by the changes of the Hung Temple Relic Site, the landscape here is much more beautiful. In particular, the road to the temples has been renovated to be easier to travel, even though she is old, she can still go up to the Upper Temple to burn incense to show respect to her ancestors.

Aware of the responsibility of representing the people of the whole country to look after the mausoleums and temples, and to worship the ancestors in the land of origin, in recent years, the festival organization work has been carried out by Phu Tho province very solemnly, respectfully and sacredly, becoming an exemplary and solemn festival, imbued with national identity. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Huy Ngoc - Head of the Organizing Committee of the Hung Kings' Commemoration Anniversary and the 2025 Culture - Tourism Week of the Land of Ancestors informed: This year's Hung Temple Festival is associated with the Culture - Tourism Week of the Land of Ancestors, taking place from April 9 - 18 (ie March 1 - 10 of the Lunar calendar) at the Hung Temple Historical Site (Viet Tri City) and districts, towns and cities throughout the province.

The highlight of this year's festival season is the opening art program of the Cultural - Tourism Week of the Ancestral Land with the theme "Echoes of the Origin" taking place on the evening of the 1st of the 3rd lunar month at Hung Vuong Square. From the 1st to the 9th of the 3rd lunar month, Van Lang Park will become a vibrant cultural space with a series of night art programs serving the people and tourists. In particular, on the evening of the 9th of the 3rd lunar month, there will be a high-altitude fireworks display on Van Lang Park Lake, creating a brilliant highlight to close the series of colorful art activities.

In addition to cultural activities, this year's festival also organizes many sports tournaments to create a vibrant and meaningful playground, including: Phu Tho Golf Tournament "Drinking water, remembering the source" 2025, Martial arts Festival "Returning to the origin", Marathon "Returning to the source" 2025...

Time to grow

The Hung King era has settled into cultural sediments. To this day, the sediments of that sacred place are still evident as the sound of "Bronze drums reverberating to the mountains and rivers, creating heroic thunder" (words of Professor Vu Khieu) and is truly a solid foundation for Phu Tho to firmly believe in joining hands and hearts to build a prosperous homeland and a strong country...

With an open mind, together with the whole country, continuing the results and achievements of many previous years, the socio-economic picture of Phu Tho in 2024 leaves a strong impression with many bright colors. Economic growth is among the leading groups of the country and the midland and mountainous regions of the North with an estimated economic growth rate of 9.53%, the highest in the past 15 years (from 2011 to present), in the group of 10/63 localities with high growth rates in the country. Economic scale reached 109.2 trillion VND, an increase of over 11 trillion VND compared to 2023 (ranked 35/63 provinces and cities nationwide; 3/14 provinces in the region)... All economic sectors and pillars have flourished, many important indicators continue to establish impressive numbers. Culture - society is strongly about the homeland with rich identity...
