Committee for Science, Technology and Environment surveys nuclear power project in Ninh Thuan

At the meeting, the Ninh Thuan Provincial People's Committee reported on the implementation of Resolution 189/2025/QH15 of the National Assembly on a number of special mechanisms and policies for investment in the construction of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Power Project. The report clearly stated the progress of site clearance, difficulties and obstacles in resettlement arrangements, along with proposals and recommendations to prepare for the project's restart.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Trinh Minh Hoang said that the province has proactively implemented site clearance, prioritizing the area for factory construction, and is ready to hand over by the end of September if funding is provided. However, the locality is currently waiting for funding from the Central Government to implement resettlement areas for affected people.

Appreciating the efforts of Ninh Thuan, the members of the Working Group requested the province to continue to pay attention to stabilizing livelihoods and changing jobs for the people; taking advantage of local labor during the construction and operation of the plant. In addition, the group emphasized strict requirements on environmental protection, solid waste management and radiation safety.

Regarding the content of the draft Law on Atomic Energy (amended), the Working Group suggested that the province conduct in-depth research to contribute ideas to important groups of contents such as: investment policy for nuclear power plants, security of radioactive sources, response to radiation incidents, human resource development, and environmental monitoring.

Deputy Chairman Ta Dinh Thi affirmed that the nuclear power plant is a project of strategic significance to the future of national energy. The opinions and proposals of Ninh Thuan province will be received, clarified and the review report will be completed for submission to the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Previously, the working delegation conducted a field survey at the planned construction area of ​​Ninh Thuan 1 Nuclear Power Plant (Phuoc Dinh Commune, Thuan Nam District) and Ninh Thuan 2 (Vinh Hai Commune, Ninh Hai District).
