At the program, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Quang Nam, Head of the Department of Endocrinology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, said: "This year's World Diabetes Day with the theme "Diabetes and Well-being" emphasizes the role of comprehensive care, not only controlling blood sugar but also improving physical and mental health, improving the quality of life of patients. Diabetes is increasing rapidly, especially in low and middle-income countries, including Vietnam. The program hopes to provide modern solutions such as continuous glucose monitoring devices (CGM) and health management applications, helping patients control the disease better, prevent complications, and live healthier and happier lives."

Understand risk factors and how to prevent the disease

Also at the program, Dr. Tran Thi Thuy Dung, Department of Endocrinology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, presented the topic "Understanding risk factors and ways to prevent diabetes".

Accordingly, diabetes is a chronic disease associated with overweight, obesity and unhealthy lifestyle, with risk factors such as family history, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, or prediabetes.

To prevent complications of diabetes, we need to manage our weight by losing 5-10% of our body weight, combining a healthy diet low in refined carbohydrates, fast-absorbing sugars and saturated fats, along with regular exercise such as aerobics, weight lifting or stretching, to help control blood sugar effectively. In particular, regular screening and early intervention in the pre-diabetes stage are very important to prevent the disease from progressing. A healthy lifestyle and appropriate medical support are the keys to protecting health and preventing dangerous complications.
