“We can now provide the Syrians with wheat, flour and oil - Ukrainian products used all over the world to ensure food security,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a speech on the evening of December 15 (local time).
Mr Zelensky added that the transfer process would need to be agreed with representatives from Syria. "We will definitely support this region so that peace there can become the basis for us to move towards real peace," Mr Zelensky said.

The Grain from Ukraine humanitarian program, launched in 2022, stipulates that donor countries and other organizations purchase agricultural products directly from Ukrainian producers and send them to countries in need, mainly in Africa and Asia.
The long-time regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was overthrown after a surprise attack by rebel forces. Much of the country was destroyed after a civil war broke out following the Arab Spring in 2011.
In another development on the same day, Ukraine's SBU security agency said it had launched an operation to destroy 40 train cars carrying fuel for the Russian army in the Zaporizhzhia region, southern Ukraine.
The SBU revealed that the operation involved various military and intelligence agencies and took place in several stages. “The aim was to disrupt fuel supply routes from Crimea to the temporarily Russian-controlled areas of Zaporizhzhia,” the statement said.
Moscow has not commented on the incident.
The SBU said one of its units destroyed the railway line as the train was moving near the village of Oleksiivka in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Trains were disrupted, oil tankers caught fire, and military units fired US-supplied HIMARS missiles at the site.
“As a result of this special operation, the locomotive and 40 tanker cars were destroyed, and an important railway line supplying the Russian army was shut down for a long time,” the SBU said.
Russian forces control about 70% of the Zaporizhzhia region, along with about 70% of the neighboring Kherson region and 80% of the Donbas region to the east, the main front of the current fighting in the 33-month war.
