Vietnam U23 team refines proactive attacking style of play

At a press conference before the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship in Thailand on August 17, Vietnam U23 coach Hoang Anh Tuan said the whole team was ready to enter the tournament and hoped that his players would have valuable challenges and experiences in this international playground.

Mr. Tuan said: "The U23 Vietnam team has many young players and only 3 players are 22 years old. Most are 18, 19, 20 years old and there is a 17-year-old player. I hope the players will be challenged and have interesting experiences in this tournament. We hope the whole team will play well and aim to reach the final match."

U23 Vietnam is gradually perfecting its ball control and proactive attacking style of play.

After the press conference, the Vietnam U23 team had their first training session in Rayong, the venue for the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship. During the training session at Nonglalok Stadium, Coach Hoang Anh Tuan spent most of the time training his players on ball control and small, low-touch coordination.

Training in pleasant weather conditions, with an average temperature of about 28 degrees Celsius, helps the U23 Vietnam players to be excited, energetic and actively complete the training plan of the coaching staff in the best way.

U23 Vietnam is the reigning champion of the U23 Southeast Asian Championship.

Young midfielder Dinh Xuan Tien, currently playing for Song Lam Nghe An, said: "The team spirit is currently very excited and always ready to enter the tournament. This is the second time I have participated in the Southeast Asian U23 Championship. My personal goal and the team's goal is to successfully defend the championship."

Although he joined the team later than his U23 Vietnam teammates because he was busy competing in the 2023 V-League, Dinh Xuan Tien had worked with coach Hoang Anh Tuan, so he quickly caught up with the training pace and easily integrated into the team's tactics. In addition, being able to play in the V-League is a valuable experience for Tien during this trip to Thailand.

Revealing the preparations of U23 Vietnam for the upcoming two matches against U23 Philippines and U23 Laos, Xuan Tien added: "The coaching staff has made tactical analysis of the two opponents and the whole team will try to play according to the proposed tactics. Coach Tuan always tells us to focus and play our best."

On the opening day of the 2023 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the Cambodian U23 team had a resounding 5-0 victory over Brunei U23 in the first match of Group A. Meanwhile, host Thailand defeated Myanmar U23 with a score of 3-0 in the match that took place on the same day.
