On the occasion of the 98th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, journalist Huynh Dung Nhan released a memoir titled "40 years of traveling, loving and writing".

Holding in hand a book with rich content and full of passion by a famous journalist, readers will be moved by the author's journey through the word "love"...

Carry out the slogan "Go, love and write"

For Huynh Dung Nhan, 40 years of journalism have many happy and sad stories, painful and heartbreaking, glorious and humiliating.

When planning to write a book, he “delayed for a long time, not knowing what to write, what to hide, what to tell and what to forget, where to start…” Because his whole life was attached to the pen. If not writing, not poetry, then drawing, he always did something to express his feelings and refused to sit still…

Writing a memoir is not difficult, but choosing what to write is difficult, while he has so many things to say. In particular, when he was starting to draft the manuscript for this book, in April 2021, he suddenly suffered a stroke and had to stop working...

Later, even though he could only type on a laptop with his right hand and had to write on his phone, he was still determined to write the book.

Looking back on his life, journalist Huynh Dung Nhan said he hurriedly followed the slogan “Go, love and write” so that if he couldn’t be perfect, he wouldn’t let himself be disappointed. In the end, he realized that the most valuable assets were his family, friends, colleagues and his journalism career.

He shared: “Many colleagues suggested that I write about my years as a writer, especially the time I spent writing reports and teaching, so that I could make a book full of practical stories for young journalists and future generations of journalism students.

I want to contribute a little bit to that. Simply, I want to tell my story of 40 years of ups and downs in journalism. Maybe someone can pick up some journalism experience from here…”.

"Savings" for journalism

Journalist Huynh Dung Nhan wants to preserve the memories and experiences that are considered his "reserves" after more than four decades of journalism.

The nearly 500-page memoir includes four chapters filled with information, written in the lively style of the reporter with "Eating Tet in the middle of the wolf forest", "Crawling down to the Mong Duong mine", "I went to sell myself"...

Chapter One reviews the author's career path, including his teenage years, his time studying Literature and Journalism, and his early days as a writer at Tuoi Tre and Lao Dong newspapers, then becoming Editor-in-Chief of Journalism magazine, and Deputy Head of the Professional Department of the Vietnam Journalists Association...

Chapter Two features 15 of his favorite daily reports along with his story about writing them.

If Chapter Three contains the author's articles in the field of journalism theory that readers are interested in, Chapter Four includes articles by famous journalists, writers, and journalism lecturers about the author.

Not only telling the story of life, the memoir also contains professional experiences cleverly interwoven with typical reportage pieces.

The articles all synthesize and analyze career factors to help readers, especially those who love journalism and reportage, find the most specific and useful professional lessons.

With many years of writing experience and growing through various positions, journalist Huynh Dung Nhan is confident that he is capable of providing readers with valuable knowledge.

These are the things he has summarized and summarized throughout his 40 years of memorable work. He often shared with his students: “If you are a journalist, just write. There is no other way but to write.”

Commenting on the memoir, critic Pham Xuan Nguyen said: “Huynh Dung Nhan puts himself in hot spots to create lively words, not static, lying still but making readers think. Despite having a serious illness, his determination and love for the profession have helped him become who he is today.”

Mr. Pham Quoc Toan - former Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association said that the memoir is an extremely useful textbook on journalism for journalism students, not only young journalists but also middle-aged journalists can learn a lot from the author, especially the love for the profession.

Writing the last page of this memoir on his 68th birthday, Huynh Dung Nhan said he still had a lot to say, those years were like a slow-motion film recreating the beautiful memories in his mind.

The journalist affirmed: "The writing profession has given me the most beautiful life, because I have lived a full and meaningful life."

Huynh Dung Nhan, born in 1955, is a journalist who has worked for many years at Lao Dong Newspaper, specializing in reportage. His journalistic works express concerns about society and human destiny through a lyrical, humorous and profound pen.

He is the author of 30 outstanding books in the genres of reportage, short stories, poetry, memoirs, children's stories and textbooks, such as: I'm going to sell myself; Celebrating Tet in the wolf forest; From Mong Duong mines to the roof of the world, Tibet (co-published with journalist Do Doan Hoang)...
