Sun Weidong (1969) was intelligent since childhood, born into a poor family in Jiangyin (Jiangsu, China). He was known as the Physics genius of China. During his school years, Weidong was the student with the highest achievement in his school and class. In the eyes of his teachers, he was an excellent student, a shining example for his classmates to follow.

In 1984, Wei Dong was admitted to the Basic Class (for young geniuses who passed university entrance exams before the age of 18) of Fudan University, majoring in Physics. Entering the university at the age of 15, he achieved many outstanding results. During his studies, Wei Dong was guided in his research by the famous Physics professor Xie Xi De, who was also the principal of Fudan University at that time.

In 1988, after graduating from university with honors, he wanted to continue his studies for a master's degree. To nurture his passion for nuclear physics, Wei Dong joined the CUSPEA program founded by Nobel laureate Professor Li Zhengdao, which aims to select young talents to study abroad in the United States. This program has trained leading scientists and professors in physics in China.

However, after the incident of scientist Ly Van Ha, the US adjusted its talent training plan and banned Chinese students from studying Physics. To stay in the US, Ve Dong had to switch to studying Computer Science at New York University.

After graduating with a master's degree in 1991, he continued his studies for a doctorate. After that, Ve Dong joined a technology company on Wall Street (New York, USA) as a senior programmer. The salary Ve Dong received more than 20 years ago was about 130,000-134,000 USD/year (3.1-3.2 billion VND).

With an income of over 3 billion/year at that time, many people thought that Ve Dong would have a luxurious life in a foreign land. However, his current situation was recently shared by a Chinese-American blogger on social media, causing many people to feel sorry.

Life in a "foreign land" causes regret

Accordingly, a Chinese-American blogger shared on social media the current life of Ton Ve Dong. Currently, he is unemployed and wandering around New York, becoming homeless for the past 16 years. In the summer, he sleeps on the street, in the winter he goes to the subway station to "take refuge" to get through the cold days because there is usually a heating system here.

Regarding the reason why his life has become like this, Ton Ve Dong confided that it was due to work pressure combined with family problems. Joining a technology company, he met a colleague. The two loved each other for 4 years, then decided to live together. However, due to cultural differences, not long after, the two decided to divorce.

It was this shock that made Ton Ve Dong withdraw from society and not interact with others. Not interacting with people for a long time made him suffer from hallucinations. Later, he could not work clearly like a normal person. He also shared that because he was an ambitious person, he did not appreciate manual work. Instead, he only wanted to work in an office and absolutely did not work as a security guard or cleaner in a shopping mall.
