A large number of teachers have resigned, while the budget is no longer enough to pay for electricity, water, and buses, forcing AISVN to end the school year early, according to the principal.
On April 16, the Office of the Principal of the American International School Vietnam (AISVN) issued a notice explaining the reason for ending the school year on April 26, instead of June as planned.
Principal Chandra McGowan said a large number of foreign teachers had announced their resignations before or early in May. In the last two weeks of April, the school had to continuously schedule replacements for these teachers.
Most of the remaining teachers also refused to continue working without full pay. They chose to teach until April 26 for the sake of the students. After that date, the school did not have enough teachers to maintain operations.
On the other hand, AISVN's current financial resources are not enough to cover essential operating costs such as electricity, telephone, photocopy machine, projector rental and bus service.
Therefore, ending the school year on April 26 is the best option in the current situation, ensuring stability and providing necessary support for students and teachers.

Regarding learning outcomes, the principal said that at the primary level, students' scores are based on continuous assessment of their achievements and development in all subjects, through many activities.
At the secondary level, teachers are reviewing second semester grades based on assessments, as well as the entire process, from January to now. To date, AISVN has met the required number of hours of study as required by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO).
"The school has sufficient evidence of learning and enough hours for this school year, so IBO understands and supports AISVN's plan to complete the school year early to cope with the force majeure situation," the announcement said.
From now until the end of the school year, teachers and administrators will ensure that activities continue as normal, prioritizing assessment content to ensure students are eligible to move up to the next grade. The school also plans to review for the International Baccalaureate Diploma exam for Grade 12 students and prepare a study plan for the IB program for Grade 11 students next year.
According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training on April 13, 26 foreign teachers and 5 Vietnamese teachers did not attend class. The entire school was absent from 145 students. 10 foreign teachers have officially submitted resignation letters.

AISVN was established in 2006, with a campus in Nha Be district. The school currently has more than 1,310 students, most of whom follow the IB program. AISVN's tuition fees range from VND280-725 million per year, depending on the level of study.
Last July, the school attracted attention when parents gathered to demand debt. On March 18, all students had to stay home because most teachers did not show up to teach because they were owed wages.
The school owner then called on parents to support an additional 9.5-25.5 million VND per student per month, in addition to the tuition packages already paid. The school then reopened on April 3.
Currently, nearly 750 out of more than 1,000 parents have contributed support to AISVN. The total amount collected is more than 30 billion VND, while the school needs 125 billion VND to teach directly until the end of the year.
