Ho Chi Minh City Using a fake PhD in Computer Science, a person successfully became a lecturer, then head of department at Vietnam College of Industry and Trade.
On November 25, a leader of the Vietnam College of Industry and Trade said that in October, the school discovered that the Head of the Information Technology Department had used a fake degree. This was the first time this had happened at the school.
This person was born in 1981, applied for a teaching position and was accepted for a probationary period in early September. The application includes a master's and doctoral degree in Computer Science, both awarded by the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City. The applicant did not provide a university degree because it was lost and is applying for a reissue.
Realizing that the candidate had teaching ability and a doctoral degree in a suitable field, at the end of September, the school appointed him as Head of the Information Technology Department, replacing the retired head of the department.
After that, Vietnam College of Industry and Trade received some opinions doubting the qualifications of the new dean. The school sent his information, master's and doctoral degrees to the University of Natural Sciences for comparison. In a written response, the University of Natural Sciences said that the information on the degree did not match the school's data.
"When he applied for the job, he submitted a notarized diploma, so the school did not suspect anyone using a fake diploma to apply to teach. This person also sent photos of him teaching at several universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City," said the leader of the Vietnam College of Industry and Commerce.

According to the leader of Vietnam College of Industry and Commerce, after the verification results, he still affirmed that he had studied for real and had a real degree. However, before the school could take the next steps, in early November, he submitted a resignation letter and cut off all contact.
The school said that his teaching time was short, only a few classes so it did not affect student training.

The leader of another university in Binh Thanh district also confirmed that the person using the fake degree at Vietnam College of Industry and Trade had lectured on several subjects at the school's Information Technology department in 2016 and 2017.
He said that at that time this person used a master's degree, cross-checking degrees between schools was not common so the school could not detect whether the degree was real or fake.
