This morning, November 20, Professor Le Ngoc Thach attended the ceremony and awarded the 8th Le Van Thoi Prize in 2024 to students, trainees, and postgraduates with outstanding scientific research results at the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
5 individuals awarded Le Van Thoi Award in 2024
In this round of selection and awarding of Le Van Thoi Prize, the school awarded the university graduation thesis of Vo Song Nguyen and Vo Tien Thinh (Faculty of Information Technology) for excellent bachelor thesis; Nguyen Ha Tuyet Minh (Faculty of Materials Science and Technology) for excellent master thesis; Le Thi Ngoc Thao (Faculty of Information Technology) for excellent doctoral thesis.
In particular, this year’s Le Van Thoi Award has added two consolation prizes for the best undergraduate thesis and the best doctoral thesis. Two new awards this season were given to Dr. Le Van Trinh (Faculty of Biology - Biotechnology) and Nguyen Tuan An (Faculty of Materials Science and Technology).
At the same time, the school also awarded 3 staff members who guided the individuals who won the Le Van Thoi Award in 2024, including: Prof. Dr. Le Hoai Bac (Faculty of Information Technology), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Dong Quy (Faculty of Materials Science and Technology) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Hai Nhung (Faculty of Biology - Biotechnology).
The Le Van Thoi Award was established at the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University) by Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Thach - a former student and lecturer of the school - and contributed with an initial capital of 1.5 billion VND, to commemorate the merits and ethics of Prof. Le Van Thoi.
The award contributes to supporting, nurturing and encouraging students, trainees and postgraduates to achieve excellent scientific research results, through scientific thesis/dissertation/dissertation topics conducted and defended at the University of Natural Sciences, with all or part of the research results published in prestigious international scientific journals with high impact factors.

The awardee must have at least one international paper in group Q1.
The Le Van Thoi Award Organizing Committee reviews applications based on the criteria that the thesis/master's thesis/doctoral dissertation must be conducted and defended at the University of Natural Sciences (Ho Chi Minh City National University).
The defense period for graduation thesis/master's thesis/doctoral dissertation is from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023.
The award application must include at least one international article with an impact factor (IF) in the Q1 group of the industry with the candidate as the main author (first author or corresponding author) and the article content must be completely compatible with the thesis/dissertation/dissertation topic.
International articles may have page numbers or only DOI numbers, calculated up to August 30, 2024. Selection results are based on the following criteria: ranking of journals by Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4; impact factor (IF); position of the candidate in the articles. If the priority points of many candidates are equal, priority will be given to the candidate with the highest average academic score.

The first selection and award ceremony was held in October 2017, with 3 bachelors, masters and doctors receiving awards worth 20, 25 and 30 million VND. Since then, the school has awarded this award to outstanding individuals every year.
Professor Le Ngoc Thach shared: "Since this award was given, the number of international scientific articles of the school has increased significantly, due to the competition among candidates. I feel very happy so I contributed an additional 500 million VND to the award. Therefore, this year, there have been 2 more consolation prizes for the best bachelor's thesis and the best doctoral thesis. In the future, I will continue to contribute to this award."
The Le Van Thoi Award structure in 2024 has increased both in the number of awards and the prize value, including: the award for the graduation thesis worth 30 million VND, the master's thesis worth 40 million VND, the doctoral thesis worth 50 million VND and 2 consolation prizes worth 10 million VND/prize.
