New page in information and communication cooperation between Vietnam and Finland

At the working session with Finnish Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne, the two sides shared information and discussed strategies and policies for developing digital infrastructure, digital economy, ICT industry, digital innovation in the development trend and widespread application of artificial intelligence (AI).

This is the first time the Ministers in charge of information and communications of the two countries have met and discussed orientations and priorities to promote bilateral cooperation. The two Ministers discussed increasing support and facilitating organizations and enterprises to implement cooperation projects in research, development of new technologies, training of high-quality human resources, especially for digital infrastructure, information security, and digital transformation to promote the development of the two countries' digital economy. The two sides will establish working groups to jointly develop and implement cooperation activities, and enhance exchanges between specialized units of the two ministries.

At the working session with Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs and Employment Wille-Werner Rydman, the two sides discussed the situation and development policies of each country, potentials and cooperation priorities in the coming time.

Minister Wille-Werner Rydman said that Finland attaches importance to developing multifaceted cooperation with Vietnam, especially in the fields of digital economy and ICT industry. Vietnam is one of four countries that Finland will provide preferential policies to expand cooperation in attracting human resources and training. The two Ministers agreed to increase exchanges at all levels to develop and implement specific cooperation programs.

During the working program, the delegation had working sessions with Helsinki city agencies on digital transformation programs and digital economic and social development, initiatives and effective models in smart city implementation.

Regarding digital infrastructure development, at the meeting with Nokia Group leaders, the two sides discussed the situation and development trends of 5G network technologies and applications, and the potential for research and development of 6G networks. Nokia pledged to strengthen cooperation with Vietnamese universities and enterprises in research and development, digital human resource training, and sharing experiences and good practices in deploying 5G networks around the world.

The delegation of the Ministry of Information and Communications held talks with leaders of Nokia Group.

During the visit, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung worked with Oulu and Aalto Universities, two leading universities in Finland in information technology and innovation. In the coming time, these universities will cooperate with Vietnam’s Posts and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) to organize training programs on leadership and management, jointly implement research and development projects, and exchange students and lecturers.

Regarding experience in supporting startups, the delegation had a working session with Maria 01 Center, a leading innovation center in the Nordic region. Maria 01 representatives shared successful lessons and creative ways to effectively support startups. The two sides discussed the possibility of cooperation to create a favorable environment for many Vietnamese businesses to participate in startup programs in Finland.

Before that, upon arriving in Helsinki, Minister Nguyen Manh Hung visited the Vietnamese Embassy in Finland and had a talk with the business community and Vietnamese students in Finland. Minister Nguyen Manh Hung shared about the situation, policies, and development orientation of Vietnam, exchanged and answered questions, and encouraged businesses and students to make more efforts to improve their qualifications, develop their careers, and contribute to the friendly relations between the two countries.
