Ho Chi Minh City will enroll more than 71,000 students in public grade 10.

The Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City has just announced that Ho Chi Minh City expects about 78-80% of junior high school graduates to be admitted to public grade 10 schools, equivalent to more than 71,000 students.

In the next few days, the Department will announce the enrollment quota for each public high school. This is being awaited by both parents and students, because the enrollment quota will affect the students' ability to be admitted to public high schools, especially in districts with high population density.

It is expected that this year the city will have nearly 89,000 junior high school graduates. The number of students enrolled in public grade 10 is expected to be about 71,000, an increase of 15% compared to last year. However, due to the lower number of ninth graders this year, the total quota is 6,000 lower than last year.

The quota for grade 10 is calculated to suit each area. Schools in suburban areas with a small number of students and need to control class size according to new rural standards will be assigned quotas according to demand. Schools in densely populated areas will have higher quotas to ensure places for students.

This year’s entrance exam for grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City will be held on June 6-7. Candidates will take three exams: Math, Literature (120 minutes), and Foreign Language (90 minutes). If they register for specialized schools, they will take an additional exam on specialized subjects (150 minutes).

Students can register for up to 8 wishes. The admission score for general classes is the total score of three subjects plus incentive and priority points (if any). For specialized classes, the formula is the total score of the three subjects above with coefficient 1, plus the score of the specialized subject exam with coefficient 2.

As for the continuing education center, Thanh An Secondary and High School of Can Gio district, admission is based on academic records.
