To expand Vo Van Kiet Street, the area will have trees cut down, the median strip separating the two motorbike lanes will be moved and removed to widen it by about 7m. The renovation and expansion of Vo Van Kiet Street is expected to last 3 months, from now until September 15th.
The information was announced by Mr. Doan Van Tan, Director of the Urban Traffic Management and Operation Center (HCMC Department of Transport) on June 18.
While traffic volume through the route is increasing, the motorbike lane above Tau Hu - Ben Nghe canal has a narrow cross-section, about 3-3.5m wide, and in the middle there is a hard median strip with trees and grass...
Therefore, this place often causes traffic jams and collisions between vehicles.

"Adjusting the width of Vo Van Kiet lane (the section above Tau Hu - Ben Nghe canal) and expanding it synchronously along the route is very necessary to increase the traffic capacity of this avenue and ensure safety for commuters," said Mr. Tan.
Vo Van Kiet Avenue is 24km long, located on the east-west axis, and is considered one of the most beautiful avenues in Ho Chi Minh City. This is also a vital route, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with neighboring provinces.
The route has been in operation since 2009, with a total investment of over VND13,400 billion, meeting 6-10 lanes. Vo Van Kiet Street is also expected to be extended by 12.5km to Duc Hoa District, Long An, helping to increase regional connectivity.
