On the morning of August 22, Thu Duc City People's Committee held a conference to summarize the 2023-2024 school year and deploy directions and tasks for the 2024-2025 school year.
According to the report of the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, in the 2023-2024 school year, Thu Duc City has 384 schools with nearly 210,000 students studying. The total number of managers and teachers in the whole sector is more than 15,700 people.
As a result of the implementation of the school year's tasks, the preschool level has a rate of mobilizing preschool-age children to go to school (5-year-old children) reaching 95%.
At primary and secondary school levels, the rate of children enrolled in grades 1 and 6 reached 100%. The rate of secondary school graduates reached 99.8%, of which 79.4% were admitted to public grade 10.
To date, the locality has 87.6% of schools accredited for educational quality. The classroom ratio is 310 classrooms/10,000 school-age population (from 3-18 years old).
Assessing the achievements and efforts of the education and training sector, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hiep, Secretary of the Thu Duc City Party Committee, said that Thu Duc City is currently implementing many programs and projects such as the Project "Smart education and lifelong learning in Thu Duc City for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030"; Program to improve the quality of education in Thu Duc City; Project "Enhancing the application of information technology and digital transformation in education and training for the period 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030"...
In the 2023-2024 school year, Thu Duc City leads the number of students winning prizes in the city-level excellent student competition with 583 students, including 42 students winning prizes at the international and national levels. In addition, the locality also leads in the city-wide public 10th grade entrance exam.
In addition to the achievements, the education sector also faces many difficulties and challenges such as: some wards do not have enough primary and secondary schools; degraded school facilities have not been repaired in time, affecting the distribution of students by area as well as the ability to meet the needs of students studying 2 sessions/day; the number of students/class is higher than the regulations, affecting the quality of teaching and student management; schools lack subject teachers, the proportion of teachers does not meet the requirements of teaching 2 sessions/day...
From a management perspective, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City Duong Tri Dung said that with a scale of more than 300 educational institutions, accounting for more than 16% of schools in the city and the number of students accounting for more than 13% of the city's total students, Thu Duc City has made many efforts and breakthroughs in investing in building schools and promoting digital transformation to improve the quality of education and training in the area.
"I highly appreciate the locality's pioneering results in implementing innovation policies, thereby creating more leverage and leading other localities in the area. With a large organizational scale, Thu Duc City has many favorable conditions, but also faces pressure in implementing educational tasks. Therefore, local leaders need to continue to demonstrate determination and promote investment policies for educational development," said the Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
In order to continue promoting the achievements, thereby successfully completing the tasks of the 2024-2025 school year, the representative of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City requested the education and training sector of Thu Duc City to focus on implementing the following tasks: Improving the sense of responsibility, fostering management and professional capacity for the team of managers and teachers, meeting the requirements of innovation and improving the quality of education; Promoting comprehensive education for students, developing key education through smart classroom models, digital libraries; Innovating educational management, promoting the effectiveness of digital transformation solutions.
On this occasion, the Minister of Education and Training awarded certificates of merit to 6 schools with outstanding achievements in the emulation movement "Innovation and creativity in management, teaching and learning" in the 2023-2024 school year.
In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also awarded emulation flags to 13 collectives that excellently completed their tasks in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years.
