(HTV) - Consultation workshop on the Project "Building an International Exhibition Center in Ho Chi Minh City" aims to find solutions to develop large-scale exhibition infrastructure, meet business needs and contribute to promoting the City's economy.
Through monitoring and state management of fair and exhibition activities in the city, the Department of Industry and Trade recorded that on average, there are over 400 fairs and trade exhibitions confirmed to be held in the city every year, an average increase of 3.68% per year.
Along with the research results and summarizing the comments and sharing at the first consultation workshop, on the morning of December 27, the consultation workshop on the Project "Building an International Exhibition Center in Ho Chi Minh City" continued to basically complete the initial research results of the project, thereby summarizing the possibility of appropriate application for Ho Chi Minh City.
The consultation workshop on the Project "Building an International Exhibition Center in Ho Chi Minh City" continued to basically complete the initial research results of the Project, thereby drawing conclusions on the appropriate applicability for Ho Chi Minh City. The workshop gathered many leading experts.
The city currently has about 188 venues for fairs and exhibitions, widely distributed across 22 districts and Thu Duc city; in which, in addition to 2 concentrated venues (Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center - SECC and Tan Binh Exhibition and Convention Center - TBECC), most of the remaining venues mainly take advantage of suitable locations available in the locality, meeting the minimum conditions for services (such as electricity, water, security, sanitation) such as: Children's House, Labor Federation, Cultural Center, Sports Center of districts, hotels, restaurants, some roads, residential areas...
In fact, the venues for organizing trade fairs and exhibitions in the city have not met the needs of businesses and the development of the city. The presentations have basically completed the initial research results of the project on the main contents: studying the experience and development model of international exhibition centers in Vietnam and some countries in the world, thereby drawing conclusions on the possibility of appropriate application for Ho Chi Minh City; assessing the development trend of international exhibition centers; analyzing development resources and forecasting domestic and international impacts on the development of international exhibition centers in Ho Chi Minh City; orienting the development of international exhibition centers in Ho Chi Minh City and proposing mechanisms, policies and solutions to implement the project.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung said at the conference: The city organizes over 400 trade fairs and exhibitions. However, the venues have not met the needs of businesses.
In order to position the Ho Chi Minh City Expo brand, the city identifies orientations on the following two important pillars: building the brand of the exhibition and conference center and building the brand of international exhibition, conference and fair events.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said at the workshop: The establishment of an international exhibition center in Ho Chi Minh City with the comments and suggestions of delegates is an important basis for completing the project for early implementation in practice. The city organizes over 400 trade fairs and exhibitions. However, the venues have not met the needs of businesses. The organization of this workshop aims to suggest directions for the city, solutions to attract investment, propose resources... to deploy and build an international exhibition center of regional scale, helping Ho Chi Minh City develop more strongly. The establishment of an international exhibition center in Ho Chi Minh City is also in line with the city's development strategy until 2030.
Dr. Ngo Viet Nam Son, Architect, said: Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has 5 potential locations to build an international exhibition center. Specifically, including: expanding and upgrading the SECC area (District 7) with a scale of 11.5 hectares; upgrading the exhibition area in Thu Thiem (Thu Duc City) with a scale of about 83,000 square meters; the land in Thoi An Ward (District 12) with a scale of about 30 hectares; the land in Tan Kien and Tan Nhut communes (Binh Chanh District) with a scale of about 30 hectares; the coconut farm area (Thu Duc City) with a scale of about 36 hectares.

Although the research results of the project on the development orientation of international exhibition centers in Ho Chi Minh City have outlined the basic issues and defined the research framework for the formation of international exhibition centers in the city, there are still some in-depth and practical issues that need to be studied as a foundation for implementation after the centers are formed and put into operation.
Accordingly, the Department of Industry and Trade proposed 4 key groups of content to be discussed at the workshop as follows:
Firstly, contribute to perfecting the criteria for selecting locations to build international exhibition centers.
Second, propose ideas on space organization and design of international exhibition centers.
Third, recommend solutions to attract international organizations and exhibitors to choose Ho Chi Minh City as a venue for international events and exhibitions.
Fourth, propose the resources the city needs to focus on (land, finance, human resources, infrastructure...) to realize the orientation of building and forming an international exhibition center in Ho Chi Minh City.
