According to data from Google Trends, searches for “slow travel” have tripled in the past five years. This new travel trend encourages travelers to spend more time at destinations to explore, thereby creating opportunities for them to immerse themselves in local culture, connect more deeply with the community, and thereby experience many unique tourism values.
Based on booking data from travel platform Agoda in the first 3 months of 2024, in 8 markets in the Asia region, the destinations that attract tourists to stay the longest are Khao Lak (Thailand), Seoul (Korea), Perhentian Island (Malaysia), Tokyo (Japan), Siargao Island (Philippines), Pekanbaru (Indonesia), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Ahmedabad (India).
In Vietnam, Agoda platform recorded Ho Chi Minh City as the place where tourists stay the most days on average. According to Agoda, although known for its bustling streets, if you immerse yourself in the life of Ho Chi Minh City people, you will see that this destination also has slow moments. It is the experience of starting the day with a cup of traditional iced milk coffee to enjoy the morning air, taking time to explore the street food culture and then finding a small peaceful corner in green spaces such as Tao Dan Park - one of the oldest parks in the city.
Mr. Vu Ngoc Lam, Country Director of Agoda in Vietnam said: "In today's fast-paced world, many travelers want to take advantage of their vacations to escape the daily grind and connect more deeply with the people and destinations they visit. That's why slow travel is one of the most attractive travel trends. These are things that Agoda always wants and encourages because we are passionate about connecting the world through travel."
