The first Southeast Asian Learning Cities Conference was held in Bangkok, Thailand.

From October 29 to 30, the UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok (UNESCO Bangkok) in collaboration with the development program management unit of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation of Thailand organized the ASEAN+3 Regional Learning Cities Conference.
This is the first meeting dedicated to learning cities in Southeast Asia.
The conference is an opportunity for cities in the region to learn from each other's experiences, contributing to providing insights on how to accelerate progress in promoting lifelong learning and achieving the sustainable development goals of the 2030 education agenda.
Disseminate effective practices in implementing local and national policies to promote learning cities and city-level innovation initiatives among Southeast Asian cities; establish a sustainable platform for dialogue and cooperation to promote lifelong learning among UNESCO learning cities as well as other cities in the Southeast Asian region.
In addition, establish an ASEAN regional learning cities network to promote mutual cooperation among cities in building dynamic learning societies, so that learning cities in Southeast Asia and East Asia can carry out sustainable innovative actions in promoting lifelong learning for all.
The meeting gathered about 200 representatives from many countries around the world, most of them were representatives from global learning cities in Southeast Asian countries. Ho Chi Minh City, a city in Vietnam, participated in the UNESCO Global Learning Cities Network with the representative being Ms. Le Thuy My Chau - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training.
Ho Chi Minh City promotes the construction of a learning city
At the conference, Ms. Le Thuy My Chau briefly reported on the construction of Ho Chi Minh City to become a learning city, joining the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City is continuing to implement criteria, research and innovate operating models, and innovative solutions in implementing the construction of a learning city; linking the goal of building a learning city with the implementation of the project "Building a learning society in the period of 2021 - 2030" in Ho Chi Minh City, and the emulation movement "The whole country builds a learning society, promoting lifelong learning in the period of 2023 - 2030".
Strengthening the movement and encouraging all classes of people to build and maintain the habit of self-study and lifelong learning awareness suitable to the specific conditions of each individual.
