Top localities with the largest tourism revenue in the first 6 months of 2023

According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, in the first 6 months of the year, the total number of international tourists to Vietnam is estimated at 5.6 million, domestic tourists are estimated at 64 million and total revenue from tourists is estimated at 343,100 billion VND.

Many localities earn more than 10,000 billion VND from tourists

Ho Chi Minh City

Total tourism revenue of Ho Chi Minh City is estimated at VND 80,833 billion , up 62.7% over the same period in 2022. Domestic tourists are estimated at 16.4 million, up 48%; international visitors are estimated at 1.94 million, up 306%.

Hanoi

Hanoi Department of Tourism informed that in the first 6 months of 2023, the total number of tourists to Hanoi reached 12.33 million, an increase of 42% over the same period in 2022. Of which, international tourists reached 2.03 million, an increase of 7 times over the same period in 2022. Domestic tourists reached 10.3 million, an increase of 22.6% over the same period in 2022. The sharp increase in the number of tourists led to total revenue from tourists estimated at 44,900 billion VND , an increase of 74.4% over the same period last year.

Thanh Hoa

In the first 6 months of 2023, Thanh Hoa is estimated to welcome more than 8.3 million tourists, an increase of 13% over the same period in 2022, with total tourism revenue estimated at more than 15,000 billion VND . Of which, the coastal city of Sam Son alone welcomed more than 5.3 million visitors, with revenue estimated at more than 9,100 billion VND.

Quang Ninh

In the first 5 months of the year, Quang Ninh welcomed about 7.1 million tourists, 1.7 times higher than the same period last year. Total tourism revenue was over 13,000 billion VND , 1.83 times higher than the same period. Quang Ninh has not announced tourism revenue for the first 6 months.

Khanh Hoa

In the first 6 months of 2023, Khanh Hoa welcomed over 2.78 million overnight guests, an increase of 165.3% over the same period; tourism revenue reached about 12,565 billion VND, an increase of 126.2% over the same period.

Nghe An

According to a report by the Nghe An Department of Tourism, in the first 6 months of 2023, the whole province welcomed over 4.9 million visitors, equal to 122% compared to the same period in 2022. Total revenue from tourists reached 11,491 billion VND.

Binh Thuan

In the past 6 months, this locality has welcomed more than 4.46 million visitors, an increase of more than 86% over the same period. Tourism revenue reached 11,348 billion VND , an increase of 2.52 times over the same period in 2022.

Other localities also have quite good revenue growth.

Danang

The total number of tourists served by accommodation establishments in the first 6 months of 2023 is estimated at 3.5 million, an increase of 116.6% over the same period in 2022. Of which, international visitors are estimated at 930 thousand, an increase of 11.3 times over the same period; domestic visitors are estimated at 2.578 million, an increase of 67.7% over the same period in 2022.

Revenue from accommodation activities in the first 5 months of the year is estimated at VND 3,973 billion, up 150.8%; revenue from travel activities and tourism support services accumulated in the first 5 months of 2023 is estimated at VND 1,545 billion, up 4.2 times. Da Nang has not announced tourism revenue for the first 6 months.

Lao Cai

Lao Cai Provincial Department of Tourism said that in the first 6 months of the year, tourism activities in the province continued to maintain the momentum of recovery and development. The total number of visitors to Lao Cai reached 3,782,577, of which international visitors welcomed 237,139 and domestic visitors welcomed 3,545,439, an increase of 132% compared to the same period in 2022 of 1,629,985. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at about 10,813 billion VND, an increase of 90% compared to the same period in 2022 of 5,697 billion VND.

An Giang

In the first 6 months of 2023, An Giang is estimated to welcome about 6 million visitors; tourism revenue is estimated at 3,900 billion VND, up 37% over the same period and reaching 71% of the yearly plan.

Ninh Binh

In the first 6 months of 2023, tourist areas and spots in Ninh Binh province welcomed 4.53 million visitors, 2.5 times higher than the same period in 2022. Of which, domestic visitors were 4.31 million and international visitors were 224,000. Revenue is estimated at more than VND 3,846 billion, 2.94 times higher than the same period in 2022.

Thua Thien - Hue

In the first 6 months of this year, the number of visitors to Thua Thien Hue province is estimated at more than 1.6 million, with total tourism revenue estimated at 3,500 billion VND.
