Timor-Leste President successfully concludes State visit to Vietnam

On the evening of August 3, President of Timor-Leste Jose Ramos-Horta and the high-ranking delegation of Timor-Leste left Hanoi, successfully concluding the State visit to Vietnam from July 31 to August 3, 2024, at the invitation of President To Lam.

Seeing off the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport (Hanoi) were Head of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet, Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor-Leste Ta Van Thong; Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen and officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During his State visit to Vietnam, President of Timor-Leste Jose Ramos-Horta laid flowers and visited President Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum and paid tribute at the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs.

President Jose Ramos-Horta attended the official welcoming ceremony and held talks with President To Lam. On this occasion, President To Lam and President Jose Ramos-Horta witnessed the signing ceremony of the bilateral visa exemption agreement for diplomatic and official passport holders; visited the Ho Chi Minh Museum; and attended the reception.

President Jose Ramos-Horta also had meetings with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

At the talks and meetings, the Vietnamese leaders warmly welcomed the President of Timor-Leste and emphasized that the third visit to Vietnam by President Jose Ramos-Horta would contribute to creating new momentum for cooperation between the two countries; thanked the leaders and people of Timor-Leste for their good feelings for Vietnam; congratulated Timor-Leste on its achievements in socio-economic development; and wished Timor-Leste to soon implement the "National Strategic Development Plan for the 2011-2030 period" to bring the country deeper into international integration, making positive contributions to peace, prosperity and development in the region.

President Jose Ramos-Horta thanked the State and people of Vietnam for their warm and thoughtful welcome; expressed his admiration for the revolutionary cause, national construction and development of the Vietnamese leaders and people; considered Vietnam a model for development; affirmed that Timor-Leste valued and wished to further promote the good friendship with Vietnam. On this occasion, the President of Timor-Leste once again expressed his deep condolences on the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The leaders of the two countries expressed their satisfaction with the remarkable progress in bilateral relations; high-level exchanges and contacts were maintained in a substantive manner. Discussing major cooperation directions in the coming time, the two sides agreed to increase exchanges and contacts at high and all levels; effectively implement the Framework Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, promote the early organization of the first meeting of the Vietnam-Timor-Leste Joint Committee at the Foreign Minister level; study and move towards establishing new bilateral mechanisms, suitable to the cooperation needs between the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to effectively exploit the potential for cooperation in other important fields, especially agriculture, fisheries, telecommunications, education, oil and gas, infrastructure construction, education, tourism and people-to-people exchange, etc.

Discussing regional and international issues of mutual concern, the two sides agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation and support each other at international and regional organizations. The Vietnamese leader affirmed that Vietnam supports Timor-Leste to soon become a full member of ASEAN…

During the visit, President Jose Ramos-Horta had an exchange with students of the Diplomatic Academy; visited and worked at VSIP Bac Ninh Industrial Park; worked with leaders of Thai Nguyen University; visited and worked at Viettel Military Industry-Telecom Group./.
