Just hours after his inauguration on January 20, US time, new US President Donald Trump signed an executive order withdrawing the country from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Health experts say the move will weaken Washington's standing in the global health community and make it harder to respond to the next pandemic.
The US withdrawal from the WHO is not a surprising decision because since 2020, Mr. Donald Trump, then the 45th President of the United States, has launched a series of attacks on the way the world's largest health organization handled the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as announced that he would cut off US funding for the health agency's annual budget.

The US decision to withdraw from the WHO will take effect in 12 months and Washington will also cut all financial contributions to the organization, which accounts for about 18% of the WHO's operating budget.
By law, with the US leaving WHO, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will no longer have access to the global data system provided by WHO.
Earlier that day, right after his inauguration ceremony at Capitol Hill and officially becoming the 47th President of the United States, Mr. Donald Trump signed nearly 100 executive orders related to a wide range of fields. The orders focused on “hot” issues that Mr. Trump mentioned during the recent presidential campaign, such as immigration, border security, employment regulations, amnesty, technology and oil exploitation, etc.
