WHO Director General congratulates Vietnam's medical achievements

The Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO) said that WHO is proud to witness the changes in the health sector of Vietnam in recent times. WHO will continue to maintain strong coordination and support for Vietnam on the journey to bring a healthier, safer and more prosperous life to all people.

2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the World Health Organization (WHO), established on April 7, 1948 as the agency providing leadership and coordination for global health within the United Nations system, operating at three levels (global, regional and national).

WHO currently has a team of more than 7,000 experts and staff, 194 member states and many partners working together to achieve WHO's vision set out at its founding: to achieve the highest possible level of health for all.

WHO headquarters is located in Geneva, Switzerland, the current Director-General of WHO is Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. WHO has 6 WHO Regional Offices corresponding to 6 geographical regions.

Vietnam became a member of WHO on May 17, 1950, under the scope of the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific. WHO established a Representative Office in Hanoi in 1977 and a WHO Branch Office in Ho Chi Minh City in 2003.
