The Vietnamese community abroad now has about 6 million people in 130 countries and territories, of which more than 80% are developed countries. In recent times, work on overseas Vietnamese has been actively and effectively implemented, clearly demonstrating the sentiment and responsibility of the Party and State in caring for the community. The institutionalization and implementation of directive documents on work for overseas Vietnamese continues to be promoted.
Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Le Thi Thu Hang said that Vietnamese representative agencies abroad always actively propagate the Party and State's guidelines and policies, provide information so that our compatriots abroad understand and support the cause of building, protecting and developing the country, and do not respond to activities that are harmful to national and ethnic interests.
As the "frontline" force in implementing the Party and State's policies and guidelines for overseas Vietnamese, Vietnamese representative agencies abroad have promptly carried out citizen protection work in areas with conflicts and natural disasters such as Ukraine, Israel, Turkey, etc., becoming a "support" for our compatriots in times of difficulty and adversity. In order to attract overseas Vietnamese resources to contribute to the country's socio-economic development, over the past year, many overseas Vietnamese networking events have been organized, focusing on strategic breakthrough issues such as innovation, digital economy, and green economy.
The task of preserving and promoting the national cultural identity for the overseas Vietnamese community has always been given special attention by our Party and State. 2023 marks the first year of implementing the Project on Vietnamese Language Honor Day in the overseas Vietnamese community. Representative agencies have actively worked with the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese to organize activities to search for Vietnamese language ambassadors and support associations to organize Vietnamese language classes for overseas Vietnamese children. These tireless efforts have contributed to spreading the love of Vietnamese language and, more broadly, the love of homeland and country to the young generation of overseas Vietnamese.
For many years now, understanding the deep longing to celebrate Tet in the homeland of those living far away from home, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese has coordinated with relevant ministries and agencies to organize the Homeland Spring program, gathering a large number of overseas Vietnamese from many places to return to Vietnam.
According to Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairwoman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Le Thi Thu Hang, the Homeland Spring program has become an important cultural-political event, eagerly awaited by the overseas Vietnamese community every time Tet comes and Spring comes. The Homeland Spring program 2024 with the theme "Ho Chi Minh City - Continuing the shining epic" takes place in Ho Chi Minh City, including many rich and meaningful activities, continuing to demonstrate the respect and sincere affection that our Party and State have for overseas Vietnamese.
Activities oriented towards the roots contribute to fostering love and the desire to join hands to build a stronger homeland in the hearts of those living far away from home. In particular, visits to Truong Sa are opportunities for overseas Vietnamese from many places in the world to meet, exchange, connect with people in the country and ignite the love for the sea and islands of the homeland.
In a recent meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs delegation, Rear Admiral Do Van Yen, Deputy Political Commissar of the Navy, thanked overseas Vietnamese for their material and spiritual support for officers, soldiers and people of Truong Sa island district over the past time. From 2012 to 2023, the overseas Vietnamese community has donated to build a number of sovereignty boats, construct works on the island, buy gifts and necessities to send to the island points and DK1 Platform. They have effectively contributed to the work of propaganda and protection of the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
On behalf of the overseas Vietnamese community, Deputy Foreign Minister Le Thi Thu Hang presented 1.55 billion VND to overseas Vietnamese to support the "Greening Truong Sa" program launched by the Navy in 2023.
Thanks to the close guidance and attention of leaders at all levels, along with the tireless efforts of those working on overseas Vietnamese affairs, the love and national pride among overseas Vietnamese have been increasingly consolidated and strengthened. Although our compatriots are far from the Fatherland, they continue to accompany the people at home, proactively and actively contributing to the construction and development of the homeland.
