The mountainous region of Quang Tri province stands out with its geographical characteristics, where many diverse agricultural products converge. These products not only demonstrate the potential for economic development but also carry the local cultural identity. The government, people and businesses have made significant efforts to find and expand the output for typical mountainous products, thereby improving people's lives and promoting the socio-economic development of the region.

Branding efforts
In recent years, Quang Tri province has focused on developing sustainable agriculture with products such as rice, coffee, pepper and some specialty fruit trees. In particular, some products have been certified to meet high quality standards, helping to increase commercial value and affirm their position in the market. Not only stopping at production, authorities at all levels have also actively supported people to build brands for local agricultural products.

Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Huong Hoa district, Hoang Dinh Binh, said: “Huong Hoa is a place where many typical mountainous products converge. In the plan to implement the One Commune One Product program in 2023, Huong Hoa sets a goal of having 1-2 products upgraded from 3 stars to 4 stars, having 3-5 new products reaching 3 stars or more, having at least 2 new entities participating in the program, evaluating and re-recognizing 5 OCOP products of 2020; coordinating the implementation of the project “developing 1 coffee product into a 5-star product”.
There are 14 products participating in the evaluation and classification, including typical products such as: Bon Phuong coffee, Huong Hoa banana wine, dried banana, Khanh Van winter melon tea bags, Khe Sanh coffee. From the state budget allocated to implement the programs, the district prioritizes supporting the subjects participating in the 2023 evaluation and classification with a total amount of more than 481 million VND. The results of the appraisal of documents and preliminary evaluation of products eligible to participate in the 2023 evaluation and classification show that 5 products have achieved 3-star rating, 1 product has achieved over 90 points, and has the potential to become a 5-star product.
Expand distribution channels
At the "Soul of Brocade" Textile Cooperative of young women in A Bung Commune, Dakrong District, there are 14 students who are diligently pursuing the craft of weaving brocade to produce traditional products of the people. Chairman of the People's Committee of A Bung Commune, Ho Van Hien, said that after more than 1 year of operation, the cooperative has produced many completed brocade products and has received the first orders. Not only stopping at supporting people to build brands, Quang Tri Province also expands distribution channels for local specialty products. One of the most effective methods is to organize fairs and exhibitions to introduce specialty products.
display, creating opportunities for consumers to clearly see the value and richness of local goods. Products are not only consumed in the province but also aimed at larger markets, from other provinces and cities to export abroad. In particular, building a two-way trade model to promote the consumption of products from ethnic minority and mountainous areas and supplying essential goods to the locality is also a form of expanding distribution channels.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tram, Head of the Trade Management Department (Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Tri province) said that currently, the two-way trade model in Krong Klang town, Dakrong district, goods are displayed in the form of convenience stores. Many specialty products, typical business features in the model ensure correct and full conditions for goods circulating on the market according to the provisions of law...
In addition, the store is also supported in promoting and introducing products; supported in connecting many typical products to display and introduce such as: Huong Hoa bananas, pepper, chili, bamboo shoots, chicken, fresh fish, Ba Nang wine, Huong Hoa coffee, vermicelli of all kinds...

According to the assessment of the Department of Industry and Trade of Quang Tri, this two-way trade model has achieved its set goals: being both an essential point of sale and a point of purchasing and consuming typical products of ethnic minority and mountainous areas; supporting the improvement of knowledge and skills for enterprises, cooperatives, production and business households in the province in distributing goods, building brands, and connecting supply and demand.
In addition, the model has supported units and enterprises to maintain and expand distribution networks and product consumption markets; create opportunities to promote product images; invite and connect to attract enterprises to participate in investing in the production of agricultural products of Quang Tri province that meet food safety standards and Vietgap standards to increase product value; attract enterprises to consume products, and find stable consumption markets for products.
Actively seek output
By creating conditions for cooperatives and cooperative groups to link production, processing and consumption of products, these models are helping people to bond and support each other in production; at the same time, find output for products.
Mr. Tran Thai Thien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Vietnam Agricultural Tourism Cooperative - Khe Sanh, said: “Our mission is to enhance the value of local agricultural products. To do that, we actively seek outlets for our products through information channels for communication and promotion. After the initial success of Khe Sanh Coffee Tour (Khe Sanh Coffee Experience Tour), the cooperative aims to trade agricultural products and local specialties.
We have collaborated with a number of units to build the Elocal e-commerce platform. The platform gathers regional products not only from Quang Tri but also from Vietnam. This e-commerce platform was born from the desire to connect the value and quality of Vietnamese agricultural products to consumers across the country, while supporting local producers to access large markets conveniently and transparently. Currently, we have connected most of the OCOP products, especially the typical mountainous products of the localities.
Despite certain challenges such as competition from imported products or climate change affecting agricultural production, with high determination and consensus of the government and people, Quang Tri province is gradually building brands for typical mountainous products to improve people's lives and affirm the province's advantages. On the other hand, sustainable development is not only a goal but also a responsibility of the whole society, aiming for a Quang Tri that develops quickly and sustainably.
