During the recent holiday, power plants and the entire transmission and distribution grid system operated safely and stably. A few minor incidents that occurred on the power system were promptly handled by the on-duty forces, ensuring continuous power supply to customers. During the recent holiday, there were no electrical work accidents or electrical fires or explosions.

The National Power System Dispatch Center said that during the recent holiday, investors in power generation sources (including rooftop solar power) basically followed the dispatch orders, thereby contributing to ensuring the safe operation of the national power system, without causing incidents or affecting power supply.

To ensure power supply during the holiday, since the beginning of April, EVN and its units have proactively developed a detailed plan to ensure safe power supply and prevent fire and explosion. At the same time, EVN and its units have organized and assigned 24/7 on-call staff to be ready to handle power system incidents, and have prepared human resources, vehicles, and equipment to handle incidents.

According to previous annual rules, electricity consumption during holidays and Tet often decreases sharply compared to the days before the holidays with a lower level of about 25% - 30%; however, for the April 30 and May 1 holidays this year, statistics show that the average electricity consumption during the holidays only decreased by about 8% compared to normal days before the holidays, and at the same time increased very high compared to the same holiday in 2023.

Specifically, on average during the entire holiday, the highest electricity consumption of the entire national power system was about 40,459 MW, with electricity consumption at about 860.5 million kWh/day. Thus, compared to the same holiday in 2023, the average daily electricity output during the April 30 and May 1 holidays this year increased by 37.2%; at the same time, the maximum power consumption of the entire system during the holiday also increased by 30.6%. Even the first day of the holiday (April 27) recorded a new peak in national electricity consumption at 47,670 MW due to the widespread hot weather in all three regions.

In the coming time, the hot weather situation will continue to be complicated, the number of days of severe heat is forecast to be longer than the annual average. For the northern region, because this is only the first severe heat wave to occur, although the electricity consumption in the north has increased compared to before, it has not yet reached the peak level recorded in the past. Thus, electricity consumption in the north is forecast to continue to increase in the upcoming heat waves of this summer. In addition, if the heat wave occurs in all three regions, it will also cause the national electricity consumption to increase sharply, causing a lot of pressure on the operation and supply of electricity in the late dry season.

As previously reported, to be proactive in ensuring electricity supply for the national power system, especially in the northern region during the peak dry season months of 2024, EVN has been implementing groups of solutions on power system operation, investment in construction and propaganda for electricity saving and load adjustment.

To join hands to ensure electricity supply during the hot summer of 2024, which has been facing unfavorable weather conditions, EVN hopes to receive the sharing and active cooperation of people and electricity customers through the thorough use of electricity saving, especially during peak hours at night (from 7:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.). In particular, pay special attention to the reasonable use of air conditioning, only turn on the air conditioner when really necessary, set the temperature at 26-27 degrees or higher; at the same time, pay attention not to use many high-capacity electrical devices at the same time during peak hours. Thoroughly using electricity saving also minimizes the risk of electrical incidents and limits the situation of high electricity bills.
